Sustainability, the Brazilian resourcefulness trait of gambiarra and smiling were the designated themes of the globally aimed Opening Ceremonies of the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics. By that criteria, NBCs time-delayed coverage tonight barely got a bronze medal with less than qualifying pacing, insipid and sometimes questionable commentary, unimaginative production, and way too many ads that resulted in the amazing feat of turning a Brazilian celebration into a bit of a bore.
Far closer to real time than the last several Olympic openers and considering all that could have gone wrong with this relatively low-budget affair in the socially and politically conflicted nation, the results of the beginning of South Americas first-ever Games were solidly mixed despite NBCs best or worst efforts.

I watched part of it. I couldn’t believe when I saw they were pushing global warming as part of the opening ceremonies.
Has liberal political correctness infected absolutely everything nowadays????
They even made Samba dancing with scantily clad women boring.
Russia did a great job with its Opening Ceremonies because for all its warts, especially political, Russian are proud of their country, culture and history.
The best part this year was Jim McKay’s commentary.
At least the Russians did not only a brief history lesson of their country, but a lesson on their alphabet.
There is Olympics going on?
Between the lib NBC pukes like Matt Lauer, the lecture on global warming, and endless parade of commercials, I fell asleep.
Second time in 4 years. The British did a “pc” presentation on their healthcare system.
Snoozefest! Wayyy too long & too many commercials.
Global warming, slaves...really?
& then the globalist loony lefty’s applauding the refugee team. Ugh
I want to see Matt Lauer report live from slums in San Paolo.
Not to mention, they preempted Wheel Of Fortune.
No Vanna, no Olympics.
The flashing squares and such in the bright colors on the field hurt my eyes...I turned it off....
At least the Brits opened theirs with Queen Elizabeth and James Bond. That was pretty cool.
That was fun.
Doo-doo-doo, da-da-do-do-wow!

For those who didn’t watch, here’s a brief synopsis:
In the beginning, Brazil was inhabited by happy indigenous people who were happily dancing around with green string....UNTIL the EVIL white man came from Europe and brought African slaves with them.
And the White man is the cause of all of the evils in the world, especially Climate Change.
yes
i’m guessing you don’t know who brazil had leading their group in the olympic parade
CAUTION: will increase cranial pressure beyond specification limitations
Actually the commercials were better than the ceremonies, especially the AT&T “21 Minutes Without Internet” ads.
From the seconds of the Ceremony I saw on the news I think they forgot to turn on the lights
