Permanently Delete it or deactivate it?
Before you deactivate or completely delete...go in there and delete ALL your content (postings, photos, comments, likes). Because they track it all...once completed, you can do your thing.

To deactivate your account:
1.Click the account menu at the top right of any Facebook page.
2.Select Settings.
3.Click Security in the left column.
4.Choose Deactivate your account then follow the steps to confirm.

Deactivating is not the same as deleting.
When I did it I had to stay logged in on FB, open a new tab, Google “how to permanently delete my Facebook account”. Then the FB page which I couldn’t navigate to on FB showed up to delete account. After that I had to wait several months, not log in even once to make sure it was gone for good.
That was a few years ago. It may have changed.
Download everything first (for your lawyers, for the future, when you’re being tried for treason, racism, whiteness...), then there are instructions on facebook about how to delete/close your account.
Good friend of mine did this about a year ago.
Didnt’ work. He’s STILL getting posts/messages from facebook, they never closed his account. He has done it repeatedly since but to no avail.

Don’t deactivate. Load it with as much crap as you can. Probably the best way to kill FB is make them store boatloads of crap.

When I did it, the prompt said that it will cancel, BUT if you try to log in with that screen name and password again within a year, it completely reactivates everything - so don't go back and check.
After a year it deletes the account, though any pics you posted may live on in other peoples pages if the saved them.
It is really an insidious little program...and frankly foments division - particularly within family
My own sis called me a bigot after the chik fil a hubbub...heaven forbid if you defriend someone....they go crazy...so I just deleted the account, and limit my exposure to toxic people

Delete all the photos and personal data.
If any photos or other items are linked from a third party source like tinypic or imgur then get rid of the links.
You account is probably linked to an e-mail account.
I would close that account and open another one.
Do not underestimate just how insidious and nosy Facebook is.
Post a link to the trailer for the movie “Hillary’s America”.
Start posting about Muzzie attacks in Germany, and the Merkel Facebook Stasi will have you shut down pretty quickly.

I don’t do FB, but have heard it’s the cyber equivalent of The Hotel California.
