I once heard that they average one fatality among the spectators every year at the Daytona 500 NASCAR race.

It has nothing to do with auto racing, or anything dangerous at the event. It's just that you've got more than 160,000 people in one place at the same time, and there is a good statistical likelihood that any one of them is going to die of natural causes or some other common misfortune.
