We saw a Kiwi in a shelter in NZ a few years ago. Not a very impressive looking bird , but they love it so much that they refer to themselves as Kiwis.

New Zealand is almost like a temperate Galapagos in terms of its native species of birds. Cats and other species brought in are killing them off and they’ve got every right to try and control it. But I wouldn’t be too optimistic about their success.
