One thing is clear.
EVERY President should be limited to a single four year term.
It has been suggested to split the difference that a single six year term is what is needed.
There is a remedy. It is called impeachment. It should be used anytime a President exceeds his authority.
I think President 4 years; the same with the House and Senate...and when that President leaves, the people that work for the Government should leave also....
Keeps the ‘water’ safer in Washington D.C. and there isn’t that ‘smell’ there....
Better yet. Turn DC back in to swamp and let the states figure it out for themselves.
But that simply isn't true. The 22nd amendment wasn't ratified until 1951. Roosevelt didn't decide not to run in 1908 until well past the half-way point of his second term. He wouldn't have know he wasn't up for re-election. In fact, he came back after 4 years to try and take the White House again in 1912.
Executive orders should have a sunset provision making the Congress to pass these into law within 3-6 months.
I’d say 6 years, Four is too short.
And gave us racist Woodrow Wilson.
Theodore Roosevelt's cousin Franklin was the one who finally put it to bed, requiring a constitutional amendment.
But even without the amendment it is true. Here is a political cartoon from the time period illustrating.
Prior to progressivism, we had people and politicians moral enough to willingly step down in addition to rejecting such things, simply because it was the right thing to do. Now they all want to be tyrants. That's what 100+ years of progressivism will result in.
Teddy was a dreadful president.
His reputation is saved by his very worthy military record and the fact that scumbag Wilson came so soon afterwards.
That rascal gets the credit for bringing us out of the depression when in fact it would have happened any way.
What he don`t get is credit for leading this nation away from the constitution and into this stinking evil anti God socialism.
Go Trump.
pretty good idea
Sorry, i was not paying attention, my comment was on franklin.
His record is also saved by the fact that authors are terrified to tell the truth about the Theodore Roosevelt progressive record.
Most biographies are nothing but puff pieces that focus nearly exclusively on his love of football, his hunting abilities, etc, and yes his military record as well.
Its mainly the touchy feely stuff. His presidency in relation to the constitution is a largely unwritten topic as an exclusive topic. The only times it is addressed is tucked away inside of other unrelated books, such as the one I linked to.
Teddy also founded the Progressive Party, meaning he was a Liberal.
Case closed.
People. Executive orders are not the issue!!! When Congress passes a law that says, for example, the US borders shall be defend its borders. The President often signs the law adding an executive that says something like, “I will defend the border with border patrol, e-verify, and overhead surveillance.” This sort of executive is rational and normal as withing the powers of the President.
A President cannot put out an executive order saying, “I’m not going to enforce the immigration law that was enacted 25 years ago because I don’t agree with it.” That’s not an executive order. That’s changing the law. Do you see the difference?” DO NOT LET THE MEDIA AND YOUR DOPEY FRIENDS AT WORK DEFEND OBAMA BY COMPARING NUMBERS of EXECUTIVE ORDERS!!! ITS NOT RELEVANT!!! How did our country get to this?
I wonder if impeachment should be more like a “vote of no confidence” by the party of the president, like they have in the parliamentary system.
