The Cessna 208B, operated by Joy Air General Air, was carrying two crew members and eight invited guests, mostly government workers and local journalists, according to local media.

The seaplane took off from Jinshan in suburban Shanghai and was bound for the Zhoushan islands, about 75 kilometers (47 miles) to the south.
The route is designed for tourists and sightseers who want to escape to the islands from sprawling Shanghai. Local journalists were invited to tour the seaplane before its takeoff, and some of them boarded the aircraft for the subsequent flight along with local officials. Wednesday's flight appeared to have been a media tour to help promote the airline's new coastal service.

Looks to me like he may have tried to clear the bridge, but hooked his floats on it and flipped upside down on the far side...
How about “Whirlybirds” with Kenneth Tobey, Craig Hill, Nancy Hale?
There were 111 episodes from 1957 through 1960. Sounds like there quite a few of us old timers here.

Was never big on Whirlybirds, don’t remember much about it other than it had helicopters and it was popular. Maybe it was more aimed toward an adult audience?
Yeah, was some good weekend watchin’ for kids (and adults) then. Bowery Boys, Charlie Chan, Car 54, Amos N Andy, Sea Hunt - way too many to mention here. What’s great is how much of it is available to watch either streaming or on DVD nowadays.
How could any boy forget Penny
Actually, “Out of the clear blue of a western sky... it’s SKY KING!”... and his niece, Penny.
Ping to # 3 , # 4 , as well as comment and photo at # 23 .

The PBY is the type of plane that Jaques Cousteau’s son Phillipe was flying when he was killed.
Actually the original “Songbird” was a good old Beech 18. Older than dirt? Try older than igneous rock!

“I remember watching Sky King, back in San Diego on a little 12” B+W tv. It was 1959—and I was 3. Not to mention The Untouchables, The Rifleman and others, first-run. Yeesh...where DOES the time go? :)”

I musta seen those shows first-run too, then, since I got a couple years on ya. But they lived on in syndication for awhile afterwards.
Yeah, I remember a few of those TVs where it was a big bulky thing with a small roundish screen.
As for time - it went that-a-way!
AFAIK, everybody called it the Catalina. That or PBY.
