I will participate in the Republican National Convention next week for the first time as a delegate and not as an elected official. It's not my first goat rodeo, but it will become the first in which I will directly cast a ballot for the Republican presidential nominee.
I campaigned for the position when my friend Gov. John Kasich of Ohio was still in the race and won delegates in Michigan's Republican primary. It was important that the delegates commit themselves in accordance with the outcome of the vote to ensure the integrity of the process. It becomes especially important should no candidate receive sufficient votes to win the party's nomination outright prior to the quadrennial conclave.
But that didn't happen this time.
Donald Trump won sufficient delegates through the primaries and caucuses to secure the nomination. So went the possibility of participating in the first brokered Republican convention since 1976.
Unfortunately, some folks are not happy with the result. The Stop Trump movement materialized to initiate a floor fight at the convention to unbind delegates from the candidate whom the grassroots chose and instead follow "their conscience."
It won't be known until Monday whether they built enough support for their effort after the party rules committee struck it down this week. If a vote occurs and actually won, it could become that historic occasion envisioned a few months ago.

Hoekstra-orchestra-coincidence?
Kabuki theater for the “Republicans” that hold office due to the money that keeps them there.
Everyone knows it.
None whatsoever.
They’ve “needed” to do a lot of things but thus far they haven’t done them and have behaved like a bunch of spoiled brats.
Also, now they’ve got to vote against Mike Pence too, and he’s a pretty solid guy in conservative circles. Some will just because they hate Trump so much, but they’re only cutting off their own noses.
It’s truly astounding how some people in Washington are so clueless when it comes to facts, logic, the rule of law and common sense. How they do not understand why Trump is liked just underscores how out of touch these useless idiots in Washington have turned in to.
They have a disease running threw there veins that has fogged and poisoned their judgement.
Are most of these people Ted Cruz supporters or Mitt Romney and Bill Kristol allies?
dis the voters and their careers die die die.
The ones I know are Cruz supporters. ..I’ll be watching our state delegation at Cleveland VERY CLOSELY.
These people are deranged. I can understand that they may not like his style, but he won fair and square with his solid message-get over it cry-babies! I guess you can’t be a quintessential American if you’re a billionaire.
No perhaps about it Former Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-Mich.), that is exactly what happened. Of course those mounting this effort are clueless. Why? Because they do not want to listen to us!!!
Agree there’s a lot of mind controlled trigglypuff zombies.
Lyn’ Ted, his delegates, and others with their Stop Trump, elect Clinton goals need to stay home.
I have a lot of respect for Pete Hoekstra. I hope he becomes parts of the national security advisory team. His experience is considerable.
This guy is an absolute idiot!!!
No wonder he didn't get re-elected.
