This was definitely not to be a call for civility in politics. I didn’t explain myself well. Civility in the parts of cities where killing cops is thought to be a fair reaction to perceived slights.
No leader does this, no one calls ALL (most) OF THESE SHOOTING STORIES what they are, problems with animal-like behavior on the part of the young man who is shot. We need to expect civilized behavior from all Americans, and people need to rise up and act like human beings, not react like wounded animals all the time. Why do we allow whole segments of society to decivilize?
I thought it would be great to finally have a leader stand up and place blame for the black / cop conflict ON PERSONAL BEHAVIOR.
But this was a dumb idea so forget it, I’m sorry.
It goes deeper than that even. We have a sin and hate problem.
Your intent was good, but at this time, this approach would be twisted back to demean Trump. I hope you can see this is likely to occur. Look at Ben Carson, who's a nice guy with a Christian message, but isn't taken credibly. “He looks like he's sleeping,” people say.
At least men need a man who we know both shows and commands respect. He need not be flawless, but he must be strong. We have voted for a great number of “men” who were really little girls, at best. Men should not go around apologizing and compromising every good principle they ever stood for, because they will be made fun of and not be respected by anyone (men or women) because “he stood for nothing and no one could trust him.”
Men will get on board with a guy who does such things properly. Look at Reagan. He even had grudging respect from virtually all Democrat men, even if they disagreed. To this day, 0bama and the liberals are trying to “find Reagan's special sauce formula.” They cannot bring themselves around to understanding the truth behind Ronald as his formula for success. He had consistent, positive principles, stood for those principles, and believed them to his core. To the extent Trump has them and evidences them consistently, he will have the effect in time you desire from a “civility speech.”
Talk is cheap, to most men (unless they are girly-men). We've had far too much talk that never has substantive follow through. Action is now needed, because no one believes anyone’s words anymore.
This is partly why Trump is now so big. He stood by non-PC words and let himself be pilloried. He's put his name and businesses on the line while the negative crud keeps flying at him. He's risking money and friendships for his words.
For men, this tells us something positive and we know we can respect such a person.
His example will help undo the problems of which you speak.
