“Much” worse? No.

Most of the black protestors didn’t have guns on them, because most can’t pass an FBI background check.

The anti-open carry folk always say the open carriers will be shot first. Then they say the police will not be able to discern between good guy and bad guy.

Both completely disproved by this event.

The best they can come up with is the open carriers did not shoot indiscriminately, and none were arrested by the police.

How pathetic.

I notice that none of the open carriers or people around them, were shot.

Were I open carry, I would be very reluctant to intervene in a situation like the Dallas police shootings due to the real possibility of getting shot by the police myself.

If they had tried to help, they would have become active targets because the police wouldn't have any idea of their intent. Situations vary and it's one of the inconveniences of having a Free People.

Under ordinary circumstances (no sniper actively targeting cops) armed citizens might play a bigger role but it's never a good idea to add to the chaos when those whose job it is are trying to get a handle on the situation.

BS. The police were looking for a black man with a gun. Do you think it would be wise for a black man with a gun to hang around and try to exchange fire with a bad guy on a crowded city street? I carry a firearm to protect myself and my family - not to be a wannabe cop. My goal is to avoid trouble whenever possible, but be ready in the event I can’t. I don’t need or want your permission to exercise my right to defend myself.

Since the police didn’t use guns to take out the bad guy, does that mean we should disarm them?

This presumes that the reason people carry is to be prepared to spring into action and intervene in a crisis situation.

Some might just be interested in personal defense.

ONLY because no open carriers were anywhere near the shooter (which I think was more than one)

Part of open (or concealed) carry is knowing whether it’s your fight.
If you and yours are not targets of the attack, and the targets are well equipped & trained to deal with it, and there’s a reasonable chance you’ll be misidentified as an attacker, best to just get yourself & yours out of the way. Don’t get into a fight you don’t want to become part of.
Remember: even police have no duty to protect. Goes both ways.

Is there any evidence or reports open carry was a problem for police?
Or with concealed carry? in that situation, it’s time to draw.
Seems just a hypothetical accusation.

This is the exception rather than the rule. Lots of situations open and concealed carry guys protect citizens and police officers.

The strange situation you had here was not normal - it was not an “open carry” situation - it was an “armed protest” situation!

Civilian Handguns are intended for immediate self defense, short range.
Not all that effective against snipers.
As for those AR-15's in the crowd, how many were actually loaded and did anyone carrying one get a bead on the shooter?
I would not start shooting if there are police present, they want to be the only ones with guns and may not realize I'm one of the good guys.

I heard of only one instance of a guy (a black man) carrying openly around the BLM protests, so as for the police suddenly having to "vet" anyone they saw carrying a weapon, I heard of only this one instance.

Normally, the same foresight that inspires one to carry a firearm or any weapon for personal protection would have those folks avoiding this area to start with. I would not be surprised if there were armed people in the vicinity, but concealed.

This whole canard is, as canards usually are, overblown.

What this sort of statement reflects more than anything is a lack of trust -- in the police with the people at large, which is understandable to a degree, and in the anti-gunners themselves, who don't trust anyone... not the 'common man', not the police -- not even themselves.
