Please pray for our very sick kitty [Update 368]

If you love pets and animals and sometimes pray for them, I'm asking if you could say a little prayer for our kitty Ciel. She is only five years old, a sweet, smart Balinese. She was perfectly healthy and active until two days ago, when she started vomiting foam and stopped eating.

Today we took her in to the vet and she has acute renal failure and diabetes. He gave her IV fluids, some meds to fight nausea etc, and a little insulin. We are to give her sub q fluids and try to get her to eat. He says that she can recover completely but she needs to eat and keep food down. He gives her a 60% chance of survival because she is young and it is acute.

We love her so. She is usually riding on my son's shoulders or fetching toys for us to throw. Or annoying her older "sister" cat. It's unbearable to see her like this.

Thanks in advance for your prayers.

Thanks, Sarah. I think it really did a number on her insides.

UPDATE for now is that Ciel seemed weaker this morning after the big vomit last night. We were quite upset. But today doc said to start anew with everything, so we did medicine first (has an anti nausea in it) and then the sub q fluids, 150 ml. Then an hour later we did the first meal, 10 ml of chicken baby food soup. Stayed in for a couple hours so will feed her again now.

This morning before it all, she was dragging her hind legs a little when she walked; it made a dragging sound. After the sub q fluid she wasn’t dragging any more. Also, after the fluid, she went to sit in two different places, on a soft place and then on the window sill. Usually she has been sitting at her water bowl not drinking, a classic sign of kidney damage. They are dying of thirst but too nauseous to drink. Now she is not, so she must be more comfortable.

We ourselves are praying hard. Thanks for yours joining!

Poor Sweet Ciel so sorry she has to go through this..what needs to happen now is her system needs to be flushed. See I thought maybe she got this kidney disease because it does happen to some cats I think its common in cats to sometimes go into renal failure, that is what happened to my Mom’s friends cat, just happened out of the blue, but with your cat it was due to her eating that thing that she shouldnt have..once her system is flushed she should be fine it will just take time.
When our pup doesnt feel well and is very nauseated we give him Serenia I think that is what they give cats too not sure..also you can tell when a cat or a dog is comfy if they dont move around from place to place if they sit in one spot for a long period of time that is a VERY good sign. Our Pup Nesmo has tummy issues so we know the drill, he also has a trachea problem(Collapsed trachea is common in small dogs, he’s a Pomeranian) so not sure what kind of treatment there is for him I hate hearing him cough :(
Its hard seeing our furry family members not feeling good just believe in the power of prayer it helps we are all here for you and your sweet lil kitty

Curiosity didn’t kill the cat this time, thanks to modern medicine.

The vet might also be able to tell about a skin pinch check, the longer a pinch of loose skin (gentle, not as to hurt the cat) stays pinched, the more dehydrated the animal.

If it gets in real bad shape, dialysis can be done at home (one needle for fluid in and one for fluid back out) but that takes longer than subcutaneous. That had been recommended for my Punkin when her kidney function got down to 5%, but that’s when I figured she had been through enough rough stuff. Hopefully Ciel never gets that bad.

It seems such a shame that a children’s toy that is that bad for cats is not known about. That doesn’t mean it would seriously harm a human (onions wouldn’t, either). But problems with the most common house pets (dogs, cats) sound strange for a toy company to not care about.

My 20 year old loves cream. She a little several times a day and does well with it.

I guess to ask the obvious though. Did the cat get X-rayed to make sure there aren’t any more pieces of this “stuff” lodged in her gut?

Yes, she did get x rayed and there was no blockage.

She vomited again today. She sometimes shows she still has fight in her, and she is loving having her “Daddy” (my son) home from work, but she is one sick kitty. She needs prayers now more than ever. We can’t tell which way it will go but she is still fighting me at each feeding.

The vet would want her in for IV feeding which we can’t afford. We’re giving the maximum sub q. It is in Gd’s hands. We love her so.

Thanks. I didn’t know you could do dialysis at home but I agree, if it gets much worse we will have a bad decision to make. Not ready to deal with that yet and she doesn’t seem in agony, just sick.

She was weak this morning, even dragging her legs. After the bolus of sub q fluids, she was walking normally. She ate (by syringe, into her throat) a bigger meal than usual because we all had to leave for a few hours. After, there was a puddle that must have been her throwing up again. It can’t be a good sign. We keep talking to the doc but there is nothing he can do unless we bring her in for IV fluids. Which we can’t afford, and plus she is more comfortable at home with us than in their scary metal cage.

She had her meds tonight and then a little bit of food, if it stays down she will have more soon. She sometimes walks ok and sometimes drags her hind legs, but when she sees me coming, she walks away. And she fights when I get her in the towel to feed her. She is much stronger still than Saturday.

I think she has pancreatitis(Along with the kidney problem)..I know that our pup Nesmo when he pukes repeatedly its always Pancreatitis..Pancreatitis can be treated at home but the Vet always recommended one day to stay at the hospital to put him on IV fluid..I just dont know if you can do this at home or have her spend one night at the hospital

She does have pancreatitis with the kidney problem, exactly. Her pancreas numbers were up.

We may have her get IV tomorrow when we take her back to the vet.

She is stable and sick still today, looking bad still. But after her bolus of sub q water, she hopped back into the window instead of sitting by her water bowl.

Yeah the pancreatitis is what is causing her to vomit..I think she is going to need the IV that is the only thing that helped Nemo..he could only have a few drops of water every few hours, no food..if you give too much water or food she will just puke it up again her pancreas has to heal and it can take a few weeks actually just take it real slow

How many days did you do the IV? Did you do any sub q water injections?

It’s $350 a day for hospital IV.

Faith, she is still very sick. Not much improvement. She does leave her water bowl for several hours after the sub q water injection (once daily). Tomorrow we return to the vet. Thanks for your prayers.

Well at least that’s what a vet kidney specialist told me. I didn’t want to do it because of the time each session would need, which would be hard on a cat that wants to get up and walk around. I checked on the web and saw warnings about infection risk too (maybe antibiotics are given along with it, I don’t know).

But maybe the drill as you have it, with the subcutaneous fluids, will suffice to flush out the irritant chemical until Ciel’s pancreas is back in operation. Could be just a long drawn out nursing operation ahead.

Pet Ciel for me and tell her God bless her from Timmy and Icicle.
