I just back from banging on doors in the heat for the Donald Trump campaign. Had a great time and want to share some impressions:
-There are a lot of folks who are undecided but reachable. We might want to critique the LIV but guess what? Chances are they're going to decide the outcome.
- It's a lot more fun to spend time with like minded (that is to say, sane) volunteers.
- there are not nearly enough folks doing the lifting.
So, if you can spend a couple of hours and want to meet some good folks who care about the future of our country, look up your local party or contact the campaign and please GOYBAKOD.
:-)
Knocking on doors is annoying to those you are knocking on.
That, and those freaking non-stop phone calls are a GREAT way to piss off the voters.
We commend you for your work.
Did you discuss the next president and the Supreme Court with the people you spoke with?
Nope. Everyone was pleasant. Didn’t run into even one angry person. And we were intentionally seeking undecideds, and soft rats.
Truth is, not many folks on our side are banging on doors.
These were LIVs for the most part. Folks aren’t even thinking on that level. Stuck to economy, gutcheck issues.
It’s a form of sales and you only have a moment to make your case AND gather info. It’s very targeted.
How anyone can be “undecided” tells me a lot more about the boobs behind those doors than it does about the value of contacting these fools.
How can anyone be left on US soil who can not quite decide between total collapse, death and destruction, and an agenda to make America great again and put America first?
Face to face talks sway a lot of voters.
I agree. My home is my sanctuary and anyone who bothers me there for any reason pisses me off. We have a large courtyard and a couple of years ago fenced it in with wrought iron and a gate with a deadbolt. Now they can’t even get to my front door. ;)
As for the phone calls? I switched to a Magic Jack and put the phone in our office. Now we can’t even hear it ring. lol We both have cells for our family and friends to get ahold of us.
My grandson says we don’t like people. I told him he’s right.
Put up a "No Soliciting" sign. You can get them at Home Depot or Lowe's.
In my city, ignoring such a sign is an administrative offense, subject to a fine.
It's worked wonders for us. I've actually seen people approach the door, see the sign, turn around and keep walking.
But, the neighborhood Girl Scouts already know it doesn't apply to them. :-)
“Knocking on doors is annoying to those you are knocking on.”
Agree. I don’t have a private drive or live in the country, but live in a subdivision.
We have an ordinance against solicitation but a lefty group which begs for donations used the ICLU to overturn it. Unless you have a sign you can’t sic the cops on `em.
So I have a sign that basically says, “Don’t Ring This Doorbell (Unless You Are Giving Away Beer).”
It is what it is.
In spite of nonstop media coverage, these folks just aren’t thinking about the election. Unless and until someone bangs on their door and talks to them, they probably won’t think about it.
The only real question then is who will get to them? Our side or the axis?
No one is going to get to you given that sort of arrangement. You’re also in the minority. Which is good news for our side.
I respect no trespassing signs. Otherwise, a door is an invitation to knock.
Which state are you doing this in?
It’s first amendment activity. Absent a no trespassing sign, it has no bearing in this area. Just a choice on the part of the canvasser. I choose to respect those. Others might not.
Virginia. Swing state.
...How anyone can be undecided....
That is easy to understand. There are a lot of people who do not follow current events as we on Free Republic do. They are reachable. The point that they are undecided, even though Hillary’s name is fully recognizable, as any politician around, tells me she is going to have a hard time winning over these voters. Trump’s job is to make them want to vote for him. They already don’t want to vote for Hillary. Trump has to assure these people that he is not some kind of unbalanced showman. He needs to give them something to vote for, not just against Hillary. Otherwise they will just stay home on election day.
“I respect no trespassing signs.”
I hope you respect `No Solicitation’ signs as well.
Sheana’s right. We own those doors. If you come on my property, you play by my rules.
If the homeowner makes it clear they don’t want to try or hear about your miraculous product/service/candidate/religious epiphany, turn around and walk away.
Just trying to save you some grief. Otherwise, keep up the good work.
