Marvel’s New Iron Man Is a Black Woman

Marvel writer Brian Michael Bendis talks the creation of Riri Williams, who will take over for Tony Stark

There’s a new Iron Man. Well, Iron Man for now. She’s still working on the name. The events at the end of the comic book event series Civil War II will result in Tony Stark stepping out of the Iron Man suit and a new character, Riri Williams, taking over, Marvel tells TIME. (Note: Tony’s departure doesn’t mean you know the end to Civil War II yet.)

Riri is a science genius who enrolls in MIT at the age of 15. She comes to the attention of Tony when she builds her own Iron Man suit in her dorm. Creator and Iron Man writer Brian Michael Bendis spoke exclusively to TIME about the creation of Riri Williams with book artist Stefano Caselli and Marvel’s increasingly diverse cast of characters.

Has there ever in real life been a black female science genius at MIT? I’d lay money against it.

Yet another one of my childhood entertainments PC-ified into absurdity.

I am deeply disappointed in the under representation of Eskimos in the marvel universe...

Too bad Iron Maiden is already taken. Oh well, probably sexist anyway.

She wouldn’t be able to even beat out one of those men in a dress posing as women in the olympics.

So, is “its” Iron “Whatever” suit anatomically correct, or does it come with the anatomy “he-she-it” identifies as? Is there a utility belt for gender-flexible attachments?

I’m disappointed. I wanted it to be a transgender lesbian Black Spanish-speaking muslim with a peanut allergy.

LOL! I like the peanut allergy. Sort of like kryptonite.

Hey, Ironman, "Snickers Bar?"
"**Wheeze** arg!!"

The House Of Ideas should be re-nicknamed the House of Re-Hashed Ideas.

Seems like 90% of today's 'entertainment' is re-hashed. I was shocked to see they already are doing a remake of The Shooter so soon after Marky Mark played the role.

Don't worry about some PC BS female Iron Man. We conservatives have the real deal.

So it's harder to believe in a "black female science genius at MIT" than it is to accept a super-soldier suit that can basically do anything?

Interesting.

BRIFFAULT’S LAW:

The female, not the male, determines all the conditions of the animal family. Where the female can derive no benefit from association with the male, no such association takes place. — Robert Briffault, The Mothers, I, 191.

In other words, If you have nothing to offer a woman which she considers a benefit, you don’t have a chance. If you have offered something in the past, the question “what have you done for me lately” is usually followed by the woman “trading up” to another man who can offer even more.

Robert Stephen Briffault (1876 – 11 December 1948) was trained as a surgeon, but found fame as a social anthropologist and in later life as a novelist, he wrote these words over 60 years ago and they are just as true today as they were back then, if not more so.

In this day and age where women are conditioned to be princesses from an early age, the man is also conditioned not just to be the provider bit also to cater for her every whim.

If for anyone reason the woman is unhappy, she can drop the man at the drop of a hat, drain him of his resources and then move on to the next victim.
