Day one of the 2016 tour finished right at Omaha Beach in Normandy France. With the 70th anniversary of "D" Day coming this week the message of remembrance is a stark contrast to the condition of our world today.

Third Photo finish this tour.
Love when it takes a few minutes to figure out who won the stage.

After what happened in Nice, I wonder if any security measures have been installed or beefed up for the tour.
There's so much countryside and occasional vehicles with spectators scattered around the route, any of them could be a potential terrorist with explosives.......

I went to Velonews to see if I could find it but couldn’t.
I seem to have read somewhere that the Tour increased security forces by 1,500 the last couple of days.

Three photo finish stages that still don't add up to more than six inches.
That's probably why at my first cycling camp thrusting your bike was emphasized repeatedly.

Well, I got behind in a heavy work and house moving schedule clash and the tour thread sort of starved.
But, just for the heck of it...
Speaking of photo finishes. Here's a video flashback of a sprint that made is all flinch.

Just over 40 years ago in 1975 a criterium race was held in downtown Seattle at Pioneer Square. Throughout the day as street people woke up from their alcoholic stupors they kept wandering into the street and causing numerous crashes. Several riders were seriously injured, but in each instance the bums didn’t seem to be hurt. If bystanders had not been vigilant it would have been much worse. I don’t remember another time when a race in downtown Seattle was attempted again. The Nationals in 1977 were held in a residential neighborhood and at a car race track out in the county.

I’m still behind too. Just finished stage 17? in the Swiss Alps. Most beautiful scenery ever. Saw the Devil for the 5th time.
The race needs a shakeup. Maybe we’ll see a new unknown underdog next year.

I've ridden in the Giro in SF where the crowds are sizeable and the interest seems genuine. But, in some other towns it seems that most folks take the race as a curiosity at best, or even a nuisance.
