The controversial 10-day dog meat festival in China is underway and Marc Ching isn’t going to stand by and watch.
The American activist announced Tuesday that he rescued 1,000 dogs from slaughterhouses, while providing a slew of emotional videos from his findings at the annual event which takes place in Yulin, in southern China.
Many of the the dogs are believed to have been pets that were stolen off the street.
As many as 10,000 dogs are expected to be killed during the 10-day festival, according to The Associated Press.
But Ching and Valarie Ianniello, who had traveled to Yulin before the event, freed 1,000 of them from six slaughterhouses around the country.
“A thousand breaths that would die here in the dark. A thousand lives that would bleed like blood left there upon ground,” Ching wrote on the Animal Hope & Wellness Foundation Facebook on Tuesday.
“These dogs, they are brothers. They are sisters. They are fathers and mothers. They are children. They deserve a chance.
“All life deserves chance.”
Ching, who has been beaten up, shot at, hospitalized and almost died, like, four times during his seven rescue trips to Asia, called the festival a frontal assault.
In other trips, he’s gone undercover as a dog-meat buyer and recorded the torture at the slaughterhouses.
He's seen dogs burned alive with blowtorches, scalded to death in boiling water and beaten with bats while they hung from their necks, he told LA Weekly.
At one of the slaughterhouses he shut down on this trip, where they kill between 20 and 60 dogs every day, Ching said he promised the owner that he would help him start a vegetarian noodle restaurant in exchange.
“There's this moment where you come into the slaughterhouse and the dogs are screaming, and when you rescue them they know who you are,” Ching told the magazine. “And it's the most beautiful thing ever. That moment's actually pretty addicting.”
It’s bad enough they kill all those dogs, but why do the sick bast***s have to torture them? That just makes me sick.
Who cares? Dogs are cool but in our culture, they’re sacred. Same thing with cattle in India.
A symbiotic relationship with wolves is what got us through the ice ages and led to our relationship with dogs. Next time you see a documentary on sabertooths or the short faced bear ask yourself how we survived a migratory existence following animal herds in the tundra living in animal skin TENTS...it’s because wolves followed us both as scavengers and cooperative hunters; they raised the alarm when superpredators came close to camp; the wolves who socialized w us trusted us with pups...wolves-wolf/dogs-dogs went with us 1000s of yrs IMO and my strange religion honors those kinds of debts. May be why Odin’s companions are ravens and wolves...both meateaters who accompanied our travels and were our eyes and earz...and teeth :) If this was a cateating festival I would be ranting on the benefits of cats that led Egyptians to declare them little gods...not just 4 their attitude LOL
I don't think the West has any more room to lecture China on this than an Islamic nation would the United States about its pork consumption.
Dogs are good people and my friends.
So you think the torture of an animal is ok? I’ve killed animals to eat but they deserve a quick and painless death.
They torture them to death. That’s serial killer behavior.
Do those Pets taste better because they were Tortured to Death?
The Chinese think the helpless Animal’s fear while they Torture them to death makes the Meat taste better.
They may eat Dogs due to their Culture, but how they Slaughter them is Inhumane.

Wow, you do insensitive very well. Not only are most of the dogs peoples' PETS stolen from their porch, but the dogs are subjected to torture such as being burned alive with a blow torch, beaten, boiled alive, etc. How can anyone with a human heart beating within their breast so cavalierly dismiss such horrific cruelty? They are G-d's creatures and to be treasured, not tortured by sick vermin like these people.
The dogs appear to be quite domesticated. Some cultures I will never understand.
‘All life deserves chance.’ Ching and Valeria are very brave.
All life is a precious gift from God. If Ching has the fortitude for rescuing dogs in bad Chinese kitchens, then I hope he comes to the US and assist the brave pro-lifers who seek to rescue kids from bad abortion offices.
