Smiling Sam's in Anaheim, CA. had the best pizza I can recall.....but that was in the 70's...
Doubt it's still there...............

Lombardi’s
Why?
Dunno’ - maybe it’s the 850° coal fired ovens. Thin crust, absolutely soul satisfying pie.
Heck, I dunno’ if it is even in business any longer.

Do you remember pan pizza from UNO’s in the 1960”s?
It was the best pizza ever! In my travels over 4 continents over 5 decades, never came across anything close.

Geno’s east pizza does not hold a candle to the deep dish pizza from UNO’s (near Medinah Temple) from 1960’s.

Living in the Chicago 'burbs, we never went to Uno's for pizza. However, I know many people who did...and they swear it was the best pizza ever. Don't know if they're still in business any more. I believe I read that the quality and service in their Ohio St. restaurant went into the pits and the place closed.

That is correct, after the owner died/sold the joint, quality seldom stays the same. Another one of my all time favorite restaurant was Phil Schmidt’s (near Indiana border). Ate there every Saturday with my boss (for whom I did part time consulting work) and his secretary. The best boned & buttered perch ever! And the broiled Chicken was also outstanding. Again when the original couple-owners left, quality went down the hill.

Oh, yes...Phil Schmidt's had such a far-flung good reputation that some friends and I made the trek to Indiana (it wasn't all that far away from Chicagoland) for a full-course fish dinner...and it was worth the trip!
Boy, are we dating ourselves, or not, LOL.

I like eating pizza in Vicenza IT. In a trattoria that looked like a cave. Now I can’t remember the darn name...senior moment...
I used a knife and fork...

the best pizza I had in NYC was a place called Sal’s. if memory serves me right it was Amsterdam and 73rd or thereabouts. that was back in the 70’s though.

Well, I’ve never had any of them, but I should point out that, in the category “best pizza in New York” there’s a fair amount of competition.
Totono’s in Coney Island is pretty good.
