Shunning/shaming used to be a powerful force in society. A lot of behavior, criminal and not, was deterred because of it. Everything should not be left to the courts since a lot of bad behavior is not criminal, and “we” can add additional consequences when the court doesn’t go far enough.

Obama’s trying to get rid of any shame/shunning/stigma from behavior. We can’t look at criminal record for hiring or college if he gets his way. That’s the opposite of what we should do if we want to reduce crime.

The one place we still practice shunning is “sex-crimes”. I’d say that’s great except we go overboard with our definition of “sex-crime”. A teen high-schooler probably should not be on a sex criminal list for life because he/she had sex with a consenting classmate one year younger.

I feel sorry for the girls who used to have to leave town for 9 months. But I have to think that decreased unplanned pregnancies more than celebrating abortions and having your high school class throw baby showers. It definitely decreased unwed motherhood since adoption was the end of pregnancy rather than shame. Unwed mothers are a large part of our “income inequality increase” Ds complain about so maybe they’d like to help shun/shame girls from unplanned pregnancies or at least somehow discourage the practice in some way. We need to be compassionate and assist them and the children but we don’t have to say they are equals to married mothers with planned families or that they didn’t make a mistake (and the fathers should be shunned/shamed even more but an NFL player bragged about it a few weeks ago and I didn’t hear any criticism of him).

It’s a start. Hopefully more to come. Maybe his career will be flipping burgers.

That is similar to this case. This one is particularly vicious and heinous and he’s guilty as hell.

So why did he run when confronted?

Maybe he did not want anyone to see his tiny tallywacker.
