An attempted bicycle theft in a Walmart parking lot was foiled by a cattle rancher on horseback, who chased the thief down and lassoed him until the local police in southern Oregon could arrive.
David Stepp said that he had been sitting in his car nearby when he saw the cowboy trotting across the parking lot on his horse after the thief, who was trying to escape on the stolen bicycle.
When the thief dismounted and tried to flee on foot, Stepp watched as the cowboy lassoed him by the ankle. The thief then grabbed a tree and held on to it until the police arrived. Best day of my life, Stepp said.

Trees are big enough to hang the lowlife, but there are a few 100ft parking lot lightposts that’d work just fine. Good day for a hanging.
I was thinking, “Hang ‘Em High”.
Or send the horse at dead run for a quarter mile.
Stealing is such a drag.
Make the thief a steer, claim it was “force of habit”.
Good thing the horse didn’t get spooked.
:P
Unfortunately ranch horses don’t spook.
I know.
It was joke reply.
LOL I know, that’s why the “unfortunately”. Sorry, it’s late and my humor is dry. At this time of night, very dry.
If this happened in Pendelton, they would keep mr. sanchez in the jail until the Roundup hit town, and then entered him into the calf roping contest.....
I don’t know if they would keep him jail. Pendleton is in Umatilla County, they don’t tolerate much there. They would likely leave him tethered to a hitching post until then, and then pray for a hot summer.
That is a great story!
