A YOUNG driver who lost control of her car after hitting a wombat in Gippsland died at the scene of the crash last night, while two others were taken to hospital with serious injuries.
After losing control of her four door hatch, the driver in her 20s collided with an oncoming ute.
The driver was heading north along Inverloch-Korumburra Road in Wattle Bank, 130km east of Melbourne shortly before 8pm.
Occupants of the ute believed to be a man and a woman in their 30s suffered serious injuries following the collision and are now in hospital.
Police are now investigating.
This takes Victorias road toll to 130 for the year, compared to 111 this time last year.
The wombat eats roots shoots and leaves.
Wattleing Wombats, Batman!!!
Outside Canberra the wombats were everywhere. Had to really pay attention when driving late at night.
Or are we talking about a Fred Gwynn / Joe Pesci "yute"?
The wombat lives across the seas,
Among the far Antipodes.
He may exist on nuts and berries,
Or then again, on missionaries;
His distant habitat precludes
Conclusive knowledge of his moods,
But I would not engage the wombat
In any form of mortal combat.
What is a ute?
Remember the mouse infestation of the ‘80s?
There were so many of them, the cats just got
burned out and ended up sitting there, watching.
A wombat bit my sister.
I meant to say: those pommy bastards killed the wombat.
Utility vehicle, I bet.
“What is a ute?”
Australian version of an SUV.
In Australia a ute is a car. I think it’s kind of like a nicer version of an El Camino.
It is an El Camino, or would be if Chevy still made them here. It’s a car with a truck bed instead of rear seats and a trunk.
The wombat is an animal that is stubborn, surly, obstinate and increasingly aggressive in its older years.

Sounds like me.
Biggest woodchuck I ever saw.
