I’ve thought the same thing of it, too, Vision. Beer. College kids. Hmmm... :-)

When you think Schlitz Beer now, intellectualism does not come to mind.

That said, I want a marriage like they have (:

Pretty good, pretty good. Hope things are cooking for you. The wife got another row of corn in, and rows of green beans and peas in. I gotta go out after Tropical Storm Colin clears out and see if I can straighten up an apple tree in the orchard - the hole collapsed, and it's got a tilt to it like some Bourbon Street lush leaning on a lamp post. LOL Was that a Schlitz beer spot I heard?

Yep, Schlitz beer.

How do you all fertilize tomatoes, peppers, etc? Not much at all?

Ah yes, Schlitz, Natty Boh, and Iron City (Motto: Let Pittsburgh pollute your town, too! LOL). That kept us all well-lubricated back in the 70's and early 80's. Either of you remember Old German or Old Export beer? Vision, you may have seen it back in the day. Local, from the (now defunct) Queen City Brewing Company off of Henderson Ave. in Cumberland. Here's a nice little spot Dad did at WTBO-AM in '71. For your amusement, of course.

HAHAHAHAHA!!! Right! Schlitz is “lowenbrau,” so to speak. HAHAHA!!!

Yes, that’s a solid married couple there.

I'm moving to listen to the radio. Enjoy Dodsworth! You should find a way to see the movie, TCM plays it occasionally...

Have a great week...

Honestly, with out getting too scientific and overthinking it, just grow them in good, fertile soil with a little mulch mixed in and (if you can get some) dried cow manure or (and I've had good results with this ) desiccated chicken droppings. Yes, chicken crap. I swear by it. A good, all round plant food from Ortho or Jobe's is a win/win. One little trick I had handed down to me from back in the hills is to put some coffee grounds around the base of your tomato plants. Tomatoes love slightly acidic soil. Here's a primer video and tip page from Bonnie Plants, a big regional supplier from over in Georgia. Look at that shot in the video - you don't need an acre+ like we have, just a nice little corner of your patio to grow a bounty of peppers and tomatoes. Small scale suburban micro-farming is a cottage industry unto itself. You'll discover that you can harvest things like leaf lettuce, beans, squash, all manner of goodness from a very small area of space.

Vision, I’ve seen the picture Dodsworth. It’s a classic, a bit depressing, but a classic nonetheless.

Good night!

Viking, I’m too young to have enjoyed those beers back in the 70s, but I had a stepdad who taught me how to smash the empty cans flat against my forehead to sorta flatten them—Coors and Schlitz cans, back when they weren’t the flimsy aluminum kind. True story! :-D

That’s him— here’s a write up of him by the state department.

Looks like he’s got some radio chops. Hope he plays some Burns and Allen!

HAHAHAHAHA!!! Right! When I was a little kid, I was just a sideshow with the empty beer cans! What a novelty! Look at her! :-D

Hey! You’re awfully new here on Free Republic. Welcome, TODAY, in fact. You’re citing a State Department page—CREEPY. Are you his young, new “millenial” producer?

I can attest to those ingredients.

I know a guy from a long time ago who used egg shells, coffee grounds, fish heads, etc for tomatoes, peppers and some unmentionables with legendary results.

Hey! That's right! Eggshells! I forgot about that. Now I can see that in my head from years ago - a mix of eggshells and coffee grounds around the base of each plant. Thanks for jogging my rapidly graying noggin. LOL
