The usual nitwits on "Morning Joe" this morning were speculating on whether Romney could carry Utah if he ran as a third party candidate, or if he or some other "big name" third party candidate might carry other states.

I think the last time a third party candidate carried any states was George Wallace in 1968, although Ross Perot came in second in one or two states in 1992. A third party candidacy in 2016 would not have Wallace's advantages in terms of a strong regional base.
