It would be nice if this perpetual "white guilt" crap would stop. I never owned a slave, and don't know anyone who did. I also don't know of any Negroes who were slaves.
But here we go again. Crappy history, lots of white guilt, and we get to go over it all again.
Never watched it..
All I remember about the original Roots is six white guys walking into a village about a hundred feet from the seashore; they brandish their flintlock muskets, take three hundred able bodied African men prisoner, and then march them back to the shore to be loaded onto the slave ship.
I mean that’s how slavery happened, isn’t it?
Alex Haley wrote another best-selling historical novel, The Autobiography of Malcolm X.
should have been titled ‘Ruts’.
“But here we go again. Crappy history, lots of white guilt, and we get to go over it all again.”
___________
After this one runs, I assume we’ll get another round of:
1. “ Why the Kennedys All Deserve Canonization”
2. “Healing the Nation Demands a Nixon Impeachment”, or “Better Late Than Never”;
3. “Necklacing for Justice”, the Mandela story;
4. “The Black Panther Food Giveaway” (marred only slightly by dozens
of purported murders;
5. “Was Malcolm the Frst Gen Xer?”
6. “Cesar Chavez, the musical”;
7. “Have You No Shame?”, or “How McCarthy Harassed Communists Who Were Only Joking About Subverting America”;
8. The Village of Mai Lai, 50 years Later”, aka “Scars Still Linger as Village Tries To Cope”.
The left never sleeps.
I would like to see a movie made where the black servants and the white master got along and had happy lives. Some Balance would be nice. Hardly any slaves had their feet cut off. Just a guess.
I saw only part of the original series but found it plain cheesy. Whether or not the story was true, it was so slanted -- all the whites were mean & evil, all the blacks virtuous. The script seemed very stilted. Typical 1970s schmaltz.
