A well-known Vancouver bird is again in the news, as it moved a survival knife involved at a crime scene in Vancouver on May 25, 2016. Canuck the Crow, seen in this undated handout photo from the bird's Facebook page, is holding a kitchen knife.
Canuck the crow flew the coop with a knife from a crime scene in Vancouver Tuesday.
Vancouver police were dealing with a car fire in the McDonalds parking lot at Hastings and Cassiar on Tuesday afternoon when they were confronted by a man armed with a knife. During the confrontation an officer shot the man, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. is investigating the shooting incident.
Police cordoned off the area for their investigation, and thats when the crow hopped in.
While media waited at the scene, one reporter watched as Canuck flew behind the crime scene tape and picked up an object.
A cop chased it for about 15 to 20 feet, and then the crow dropped it and took off, Mike Howell, a reporter for the Vancouver Courier, told CBC.
It was really strange. In my 20-plus years reporting from crime scenes, Ive never seen anything like that crow trying to take a knife.
Its not the first time the citys local media has chirped about Canucks exploits.
It is accused of attacking a cyclist and been seen riding the SkyTrain. Canuck is certainly no bird brain when it comes to media exposure, even posing for a mock interview with CBCs Dan Burritt last September.
Vancouver police Const. Brian Montague confirmed in an email to CBC that the crow tampered with evidence at the crime scene.
The crow was persistent, but the knife was eventually gathered as evidence, Montague said.
A murder of crows.
Heckler ..... Heckel & Jeckels great great great great grandson....
His familiar?
A few years later the neighbors did some roof work on their house, under the eaves they found the crows hiding place. There was all kinds of stuff, mostly shiny metal objects.
On my way to work one morning there was a crow on the phone lines with a flip top cigarette box in his beak.
Nevermore
Rossini “The Thieving Magpie” opera.
Plot in brief: Woman is jailed and almost executed for the theft of a spoon (actually stolen by the bird).
It’s on the program at the Glimmerglass Festival in Coooperstown, NY this summer.
Quite timely scheduling! Vancouver needs to do this opera.
So that’s what happened to OJ’s knife.

Why fly when you can take the train?

It doesn’t matter. If the crow makes a lift, you must acquit.
So, what is the difference between a raven and a crow?
“These two species, common ravens and American crows, overlap widely throughout North America, and they look quite similar. But with a bit of practice, you can tell them apart. We have huge pine trees in our yard, unusual for the high desert, and the ravens love them. They fly for fun, sometimes in huge strings, like the tail of a kite. They barrel race around the trees. They’re amazing.
Crows like shiny stuff.
That is too cool. Thanks for the link.
Nasty habit. I hope the crow gave it up.
Crows are very smart birds.
When I was a child, my father brought home a baby crow that had fallen out of the nest.
We hand fed it and raised it.
And believe it or not; they CAN be taught to talk to some extent..like a parrot.
Ours could only say a few words, but it was very amusing to hear him.
He would stretch out his neck and say,’Hello, Joe’ (his name) in a raspy funny ‘voice. Very funny.
I’ve always wanted another.
