Common symptoms of the Zika virus include fever, rash, joint pain and conjunctivitis, according to the CDC. Approximately one in five people infected with the virus show symptoms. Severe complications from the virus that require hospitalization are rare, according to the CDC.

The virus has also been linked to the serious birth defect microcephaly. The birth defect is characterized by a malformed or smaller head and brain, and can result in serious developmental delays.

At today's panel government, health officials said they are concerned about local transmission of the virus if travelers spread the virus to mosquitoes in the U.S., which can then infect other people who have not traveled abroad where Zika transmission is ongoing.

Schuchat said approximately 500 people in the U.S. were found to have likely been infected with Zika.
However, since 80 percent of people with a Zika infection do not show symptoms, she estimates that
thousands may have arrived in the U.S. unaware they were infected with the Zika virus
and potentially able to start an outbreak through the mosquito population.

She explained this number is especially concerning since local mosquito control has diminished in recent years...

..Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the National Institutes of Health, said at the panel
that the Aedes aegypti mosquito, the main type of mosquito that spreads Zika and other diseases,
is notoriously difficult to kill.
He added that he expects to see some local transmission of the virus in the same way there were limited outbreaks
of the Dengue virus and Chickungunya virus.

This is the insanity of improper immigration controls. The blood of infants is on their hands. This could have been greatly mitigated.

“health officials said they are concerned about local transmission of the virus if travelers spread the virus to mosquitoes in the U.S., which can then infect other people who have not traveled abroad where Zika transmission is ongoing”

Yeah, it’s “travelers” that are infected, not illegal immigrants (aks undocumented Demorcrats). You can look for the emphasis to be about American citizens who traveled abroad being responsible for the spread of the virus.

One of the curses given to those who turn from God...

58 “If you refuse to obey all the words of instruction that are written in this book, and if you do not fear the glorious and awesome name of the Lord your God,

59 then the Lord will overwhelm you and your children with indescribable plagues. These plagues will be intense and without relief, making you miserable and unbearably sick.

60 He will afflict you with all the diseases of Egypt that you feared so much, and you will have no relief.

61 The Lord will afflict you with every sickness and plague there is, even those not mentioned in this Book of Instruction, until you are destroyed.

62 Though you become as numerous as the stars in the sky, few of you will be left because you would not listen to the Lord your God.

If they're illegals they should be able to get health care for them and their babies.

I hate being so skeptical about something so potentially serious but this administration has been pretty disingenuous when it comes to getting money from Congress and using it for intended purposes. There have been lots of things said about Zika and funding from both sides and "may have arrived" makes me question the validity.

I can say a million US citizens "may die" from Zika. I don't think it's likely but could happen so why isn't Congress providing funding for it.

I could be wrong. Maybe the CDC is just saying we need a bigger wall between us and Mexico so we can screen everyone coming in and keep out those who may be infected.

The Zika virus is a harmless virus found in the environment that is being blamed for birth defects caused by herbicides and pesticides that these Brazilian women wade in while working in the farm fields, along with an aggressive TDAP vaccination campaign that has been underway the last few years. Thousands of Columbian women have been exposed to Zika virus with no microencephaly.

So, multi-national corporations that make harmful petrochemicals and inadequately tested vaccines now want to “solve” a probem they created by manufacturing a scare that will drive the sheep into another massive vaccination campaign that will be neither safe or effective benefiting another multi-national corporation to the tune of billions and billions of dollars. Oh, and here is the icing on the cake, by claiming a mosquito vector, another multi-national corporation can benefit from the resurgence of DDT spraying. It is a win-win-win-win situation for the very culprits who are causing the problem.

Don’t forget, or maybe you may not have known, the harmless polio virus was blamed for the harmful neuro-degenerative effects of the widespread use of DDT during the 50’s, an epidemic “solved” by the simultaneous release of a useless vaccine developed by Jonas Salk in concert with the quiet cessession of the use of DDT. Billions and billions were made here with no legal consequences because the media was a completely controlled instrument back then. It is still highly controlled, but at least now we have the Internet and access to information from great websites like Free Republic.
