I didn’t know that. I had stopped going to eat lunch in the forest preserve years ago, it had gotten so bad.

I don’t carry anyways but lately I’ve thought about trying to get a concealed license, but to be honest, I haven’t fired a gun since qualifying in 1965.

I made it my whole life (even in Nam, I hated carrying my weapon because it got in the way, I worked a dredger or other heavy equipment, and it was a pain to have over your shoulder), and I cut my teeth back home doing sprinklers in the projects (Diversey, Ida Wells, Cabrini Green) and never carried a weapon cept a big ass pipe wrench, but this year, I’m really thinking of arming myself. I even have a retired cop friend who keeps wanting to take me to the pistol range, I just never thought I’d need to carry a gun after Nam, especially stateside, in my own country. I thought I was done with guns, I had enough of them back then, but now... I’m really having to consider it I reckon.

It’s a big decision, to be sure.

Mrs. L just passed her CCL classes a few weeks ago and we are just waiting on the State to issue her card. The shooting requirements aren’t all that difficult. 30 total rounds. 10 at ten yards, 10 at 7 yards, 10 at 5 yards,

21 out of 30 required to pass on a standard B-7 target. That’s the big silhouette one. Your friend can walk you through it. Since you’re former military you don’t need the Basic Pistol class. So it’s just 2 four hour classes and you’ll be good to go.

The permit gives you options. You may not always want to carry but if you do, you can.

Good luck to you whatever you decide. If I can be of service feel free to ping me.

Best,

L
