I saw an article on Yahoo Bashing SGTMAG Plumbley for being a Fake with an exaggerated record. What the hell started this?
A number of media sources are reporting there is an official Army investigation of whether Plumley wore and claimed awards unauthorized awards.
Smells like BS, Can you post the Yahoo article?
They’ve also reported that the commander at Fort Benning has confirmed there are discrepancies in the records and that Plumley’s gravestone may have to be changed.
Is Aloha Ronnie still around?
He then fought in Korea including an airdrop with the 187th Infantry Regiment.
He was with the 7th Cav in the Battle of the Id Ia Drang Valley.
I'd say he earned his awards the hard way.
But this is the Obama Admin we are talking about so anything is possible.
The Army’s investigation is looking at many of those claims.
Yes,Basil Plumley had an amazing record. You don’t make CSGMAJ by faking it.At least not back when he was in active service.
But not at the Battle of the Little Bighorn Valley ...
Doesn’t the army have copies of his records?
This sounds like a dust up that could be resolved by having some PFC wander down to the records and pull a jacket.
Why is this a big deal?
Yes, they do. And a researcher has found that those records don’t match some of Plumley’s claims. The commander at Fort Benning has said the records do appear to show that Plumley was not awarded a second Silver Star and that his Bronze Star did not have the “V” device and that may have to be corrected on his gravestone.
The man who uncovered that also claims that many of the other claims about Plumely cannot be supported by his records.
Custer was a p*ssy.
we were once soldiers and we were young.
Colonel Hal Moore...
GREAT historical movie... watch it often.
thanks for reminding me...
read the book...1000% times better...i have a copy autographed by Col Moore..
Awards he didn’t deserve? Doesn’t that qualify him for Secretary of State in the Obama administration?
The guy behind this is a “professional” nitpicker who likes to find “faults/conspiracies.” The point here is that CSM Plumley was in the glider regiment of either the 101st or 82nd Airborne on D-Day and landed in Normandy on June 6, 1944 by glider rather than landed by parachute. I don’t know if Plumley landed in Holland by parachute or glider, but the glider guys also got extra pay. When it came to the Battle of the Bulge, both divisions were deployed from Mourmolon to the Ardennes by truck.
Haven’t we learned that people who brag about themselves tend to overstate their accomplishments.
See my post # 16. Also, Plumley’s records are at the National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis, MO. It is run by the National Archives and Records Administration. the only PFC’s there are “Proud, Fine, Civilians.”
Also, part of his allegation is that the ‘untruth’ is “officially” presented in the book and movie “We Were Soldiers.” Not exactly authoritative sources to cite when claiming there is an Army conspiracy.
I hopethat the Army Chief of Public Affairs or the CG of Human Resources Command, will end up calling out there to get a copy and respond to this allegation
And he was far from the only commander who erred at the Bighorn.
As far as “Official Records” go, some of those were originally entered by some PFC in S-1 and signed by a 1St Sgt or 2nd Lt with a few dozen other things on his mind.
Individual decorations - sure. Someone has a photo you getting the award pinned on.
I have a Presidential Unit Citation which was in my SRB and is on my DD-214, but I can’t find any info or details of it with online records searches. I know when we were told we were getting it and what for, but I can’t find any “Official Records” other than my DD-214.
So, is it real, or am I just another candidate for some armchair JAG looking for ‘stolen valor’?
