Ironically I was having a discussion this morning about Franco, Pinochet and Diem with two of my employees as to whether or not it was right to support them and other dictators simply for being anti-communist. After watching this movie, we all agreed it was for the best.

Just going by what people who lived there at the time told me.
It may have been an 'enemy of my enemy is my friend' kind of thing.
Perhaps they were more indifferent than anything.
False choice. Diem was a first class low life. And a “right wing” dictatorship running death squads....to protect you from communism, is the stupidest course a nation can take.
“We have seized power with violence, and are murdering the opposition....to protect you from people who will use violence to seize power and would murder the opposition.
This only makes sense in central and south America. Washington and Madison didn’t do it that way.
Now you’re in trouble. T
These people are yet another reason to never get rid of your guns.
I have no problem with socialists or SJWs being unemployed because I do NOT support public assistance by government. One rant about microaggressions that isn’t part of a joke about social justice warriors and I might fire someone.
In the old Soviet Union, Hillary would be in the Lubyanka Prison, or a Gulag, for what they call “Wrecking”.
She is a true Kleptocrat.
Joseph McCarthy was precisely right. Read: “Black-Listed by History”. There were numerous Soviet spies in the U. S. government in the 1940’s. Among them was Harry Dexter White, ALger Hiss, and, Henry Wallace. This was all confirmed by the Venona Transcripts
Franco was never nearly as bad as he has been painted. I read a Spanish written history of Spain and they author was pretty even handed with Franco. He was no saint, but he was also protecting the realm against an illegal Soviet backed civil war. Leftists from all over the world, America included came to essentially fight for the Comintern. Franco also had the decency to refuse to back Hitler in WWII. Hitler was infuriated.
A friend of mine plans to do a series of his own on my blog about the Spanish Civil war and the life of Franco. He's a historian. He tells me that Spain is the only country on earth where any kind of socialism ever worked. It was the National socialism and it was toned down a quite bit, largely thanks to the Catholic church which restrained most of the brutality. Franco did support capitalism but he also had some of the same social programs that Stalin and Hitler had but much of it under the umbrellas of the clergy.
I guess Putin really has changed for the better.
This just in, Chevy Chase’s Career is still dead.
Can’t get so-called “progressives” interested in what they deem to be old news.
Indeed, the left has a remarkable ability to accommodate the wrongs done by the left, and unless something is so horrifically bad that it disabuses them all at once, they can get over it. Thereafter it becomes that much easier to get over anything just as bad or a bit worse. This is the only real “progressive” thing about them: that they desensitize to wrongs and wrongdoing.
If you bring up something they were able to get over then you are being partisan ... it’s old news, why haven’t you gotten over it too?
Have you noticed that the constant stream of scandals from the Obama administration appears to be remarkably convenient to the left? Sure, they rile up conservatives, but all these paper cut scandals have provided a long list of only so-so bad things, “so-so” in the minds of progressives of course, that leftists have gotten over and has actually accelerated the accommodation process. I really think this often is intentional: that the left has learned to manage scandal with scandal. It preconditions leftists to circle the wagons as a reflex because their “partisan opponent” is really just scandal-mongering. It’s now to the point that actually caring about wrongdoing, unless a Republican is involved, is seen as partisan BUT mindlessly circling the wagons around Democrats is not.
