Giants wish the best for Tim Lincecum, and one former Angel can’t wait to receive him

SAN DIEGO – The Los Angeles Angels sought out a character reference on Tim Lincecum. They did not need to think twice about whom to call.

“They asked my opinion,” said Bengie Molina, “and I gave it to them straight-up.”

For all that Lincecum accomplished with Buster Posey, he always talks in glowing terms about Molina as the catcher who shepherded him as he broke into the big leagues, became his friend and support network besides his batterymate, and channeled his talents when he was at the height of his powers.

While Molina does not hold an official title with the Angels, he is a regular guest instructor with them and is spending time working with kids in extended spring.

He’s about to receive an old friend.

“And there’s not a team in MLB that would not sign him to a 5+ year deal at $20+ mil per year.”

I was referring to Maddox as a pitcher starting out today versus the pitcher he was.

A good pitcher, not hard thrower, today is worth tons because of the free swinging attitude of managers and hitters. One of the reasons Torre was a great manager is that he did not allow free swinging in the playoffs and WS. As a result they made the other team change how they pitched and wond playoff games and series where the other team had mor talent but were simply out coached,

Yup, and in obviously a pot crazed decision, pitched for UW rather than WSU (would have been beer crazed)

Tim Lincecum hold the Giants 134 year record for 10+ strikeout games.

Tim Lincecum hold broke the Giants 134 year record for 10+ strikeout games?

I doubt he's anywhere near 134 years old.

Great pitcher.

Am I the only one who wishes he’d get a haircut?

There’s a Youtube video that shows his mechanics (in his Cy Young days) in slow motion and explains how he generated his velocity. I think he used every muscle in his body to propel the ball. When something in the chain broke, his velocity disappeared. Hope he can come back and be effective again - was absolutely awesome in his prime.

Here is a photo from his audition he held for interested teams:

I think he wore it short last year, too (at least part of the year.)
