A man riding a skateboard died after being hit by two vehicles in Hammond, State Police said Thursday (May 12). Both drivers left the scene of the fatality on University Avenue.
The victim was identified as Erin Gerhard, 26, of Independence. He died at the scene, said Trooper Dustin Dwight, spokesman for State Police Troop L.
Gerhard was riding a skateboard in the right westbound lane of University Avenue, west of U.S. 51, on Wednesday at about 10 p.m

You needed quotes around “normal”, in addition to the suggestion that anything is Boston or other northeast cities is normal (literal meaning).

But you have to consider the hidden added costs of neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery and rehabilitation and reconstructive surgery. Not to mention funeral costs. :-)
