I have always had a nagging feeling this whole episode was a publicity stunt.
I have thought the same. Too much encouragement from the media that feeds on such 'reality' crap and too many enablers who are benefitting from this.
When one gets all kinds of publicity, awards, publication covers, reality TV programs, lengthy 'news' coverage, etc., it creates a stench of opportunism.
