Fan-made mods are on their way to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of Fallout 4 — here’s how you can apply to the beta and be among the first console players to try out this content.

There was a great deal of excitement when mod support was announced for the console versions of Fallout 4 at E3 last year. Almost a year later, we’re yet to see this feature added into the game — but it seems that we’re getting close to the finish line now, as Bethesda has announced plans for a beta test.

Never got into the Fallout franchise but mods can be great, especially for games that you’ve played to death.

I downloaded a Typhoon class SSBN for Silent Hunter 4 (WW2 submarine sim). The engine didn’t support using the missile tubes for their intended purpose, so the modder made them all rear-facing torpedo tubes, loaded with supercavitating torpedos.

Then I showed up in the middle of the Japanese fleet at Midway, muahahahaha!

I don’t know much of anything about these games, except that they are very popular. Is it still mostly young guys who play them, or have the original fans now grown up into 40 y/o’s who still play regularly?

The MODS will actually be created on a computer

Mods for a game created on a computer?

We've come so far from creating mods with Balsa wood and epoxy.

That will be fun. I remember way back when, Neverwinter Nights came with a tool kit that allowed you to basically develop your own game based on all the Neverwinter Nights game elements. you could develop monsters, dialogs, events, treasure, etc. It was as much fun as playing the game. We need more of that.

My 18-yr old son basically mods a game until it breaks (e.g. a hundred or more mods) then he bitches about how the game sucks, reinstalls, and starts the process over again.

Both of us are PC-gamers.

I’m 48, but I am more nuanced when I mod. I think the most I ever do with something like Skyrim or Fallout is maybe 10 mods.

For example, I installed mods to Fallout 3 to make Moriarty’s bar into a strip club with pole dancers, and had all the various nude and X-rated mods installed, along with various weapons mods, such as suppressed M4’s with EoTech sights.

My Fallout 3 character is a pimp and has about a dozen prostitutes working for him bringing in money, carries a green lightsaber, and wears a Kirk-style yellow Star Trek shirt, and is typically escorted by about 15 original-series Starfleet officers in red, yellow and blue, carrying Star Trek phasers.

In Skyrim, my character has 4 wives (multiple wives is a mod) in 3 different homes, one in a home from a mod.

Okay ran into a weird glitch playing in Survival Mode.

Been in mode a long time but just today lost two companions one after another and in the exact say way.

Was just jogging along, not in combat, not in danger, when a message came up saying “heal your companion”

Normally there is a flag directing me to wherever they are but this time no flag.

Doubled back and could not find them either time.

What the heck happened?
