Now that Donald Trumps two main opponents are out of the way, the conversation is shifting to who his running mate will be. And, as ever, the good people of Reddit have it all figured out.
Supporters of Donald Trump launched into a massive discussion on the Donald Trump subreddit, /r/the_donald, after Tuesdays primary. And a Vocativ analysis of the over 4,300 comments reveals that Trump fans are most ready for joint ticket with Rand Paul.
Users participating in the thread, which was tagged as a serious discussion, mentioned Rand Paul more than any other potential candidate, a total of 295 times. Users cited his ability to court the Libertarian electorate, and his foreign policy views as key reasons.

I beg to differ.
I think Allen West is a very good pick. I prefer Palin myself, but Allen West is way up there for me.
yes we can’t fall into the trap of having to have woman or minority just to check a box..that’s what demos do
best person for the job. it will look like pandering unless the person is absolutely qualified.
Rand Paul isn’t a bad idea. I like it.
Not sure he’d go for it though.
That’s the big question. he would be a good contrast..policy guy a little boring lol but very smart
Why? What does West bring to the table?
> Trump already has the libertarians
Where in the world did you get that idea?
I like the idea of Rand Trump could do ALOT worse!!! Allen West is my first pick but Rand would be fine !!! I do like the idea of his non establishment roots, audit the FED and rare military involvement !!!! I don’t think rand is as kooky as his dad!!!!
Rand Paul has had a history of defending Muslims, flip-flopping on building the wall, and whining that Trump is a “bigot”, so I don’t think he’s an acceptable choice for VP. It’s really a shame that the man holds too many stupid views, because his criticisms of the Fed, printed money, and fractional reserve banking are extremely valuable.
I think that he might be a good choice for Secretary of the Treasury, though, where he wouldn’t have the opportunity to babble about some of his stupider beliefs. Note that I said “might”, because depending on how deep his love for Muslims is he may be ineligible for ANY political office.
You and the other guy should look into what actual libertarians are saying.
They are in general NOT happy about Trump as nominee.
As a libertarian conservative Republican myself, I have had a lot of arguments recently with other libertarians on the issue. I’m part of a small minority within that group who finds Trump preferable to the other options that were left on the table after Rand dropped out.
I think West brings three valuable things to the position(s).
First off, I believe he is not a Washington DC insider. Everyone in America is SICK AND TIRED of Washington DC insiders, selling out America. It is maddening, how much damage the DC insiders have done to our beloved nation.
I believe Allen West also has a connection of some sort with Trump. They seem to get each other. And West will attract even more black Americans to Trump (and he’ll get quite a few, even without him)
Finally I think such a choice would insulate Trump from accusations of racism. Which seems very useful, while he has such a non-PC agenda.
Besides, I think West is among the very most qualified for the job.
I think Trump should think long and hard, before counting West out.
A real good guy, in my opinion.
Exactly! Newt is good with words but no doubt he is part of the Establishment. Donald does not need him within his administration. I fear if any of the establishment gets on board, Donald will be a target within.
Bill Clinton.
Seriously, keep that guy in plain view.
A lot of Tea Party people are not happy with West, who was elected on the strength of the movement and turned around almost immediately to discuss putting tax hikes into play.
> First off, I believe he is not a Washington DC insider.
Trump has stated he will pick a VP to help him navigate the legislative process, and West doesn’t have the experience to do that.
> I believe Allen West also has a connection of some sort with Trump.
Other than being falsely accused of stuff by Michelle Fields, I don’t see the connection.
> Finally I think such a choice would insulate Trump from accusations of racism.
It won’t - it will be obvious tokenism, given how little else West offers.
I don’t see a single voter who would vote Trump with West on the ticket who wouldn’t vote that way with a different VP.
BS Lib wishing
Chris Christie has to be considered an option.
Sarah Palin gets my vote.
Ted Cruz presents a possible juggernaut.
Rick Perry has moved into contention.
Kasich may be least objectionable to the establishment.
Ben Carson might not be back from the pyramids in time.
Carly Fiorina got left at the altar.
Jeb Bush, if he got his energy level up a bit.
No.
That w9ould look like pandering. Better to chase the fat vote and go with Chris Christie.
No
Rand Paul has his pluses and minuses.
Pluses are that he’s not pro-porn, pro-drug, or pro-abort, as many libertarians are. He’s also likable, courageous (the original “filibuster” guy with his drone thing, which shut down the Internet), and appealing to the young. He sticks to the issues, without a lot of trickery and bluster. He’s also a brilliant speaker in his own quiet way—a pro. He understands deeply why do we not want to go any farther toward socialism.
He’s in sync with Trump on strong military but careful intervention. But doesn’t seem to like Trump
His real minuses are he has no policy of defense of Israel, he’s agreeable to amnesty like many libertarians if not all, and he’s a bit too anti-cop for my taste. Don’t know how he is on the gay issue—probably not much difference from the liberals.
+1 for Col Allen West
