Federal officials say Igor Zyazin was discovered unresponsivein his bunk
A Russian man died Sunday while in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement near the U.S.-Mexico border south of San Diego, officials confirmed Tuesday.
Igor Zyazin, 46, had been in U.S. custody since April 24, while trying to enter the country through the San Ysidro Port of Entry. Zyazin had been deported in 2009, officials said.
Shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday, paramedics were called to the Otay Mesa Detention Center.
ICE employees say they found Zyazin unresponsivein his bunk and attempted CPR to revive him, according to a news release. \ Zyazin was pronounced dead while on the way to a nearby hospital, ICE officials said.
ICE Officials said representatives from the San Diego County Sheriffs Department and the Department of the San Diego Medical Examiner were also on scene.
ICE officials say Zyazin did not have a criminal history in the U.S.
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services was expected to interview Zyazin to determine the next steps for him to enter the U.S. legally.
The county medical examiner will determine a cause of death.
Wrong color. Otherwise he’d get the welcome wagon.
But for the fact that he was deported 6 years ago and was in jail for illegal entry (and one is free to speculate that wasn't the single entry over the years).
No criminal history except that they admitted he was deported on '09 and back again in '16. Yet, they were going to let him be here legally. Even my dog knows something isn't right with this.
If only his name was Jose, he'd be alive today and getting all the gov. freebies he could spend.
