They were never mixed with anything, but the show dogs still look as crippled as ever. There was a stink regarding the Crufts best of breed winner this year, her back looked broken:
My dogs are considered old fashioned style German Shepherds which have the straight back. Mine also tend to be larger in size than standard, but extremely healthy.

The back is awful. I have had my Belgian Shepherds in shows too, but they never seem to win Westminster.
I have also had German Shepherds and plan next time to get two as family dogs.

My 2 year old GSD back is straight and weighs 95 lbs. He is beautiful. Why would anyone breed them with their back shortened? It looks deformed.

This is a German Show line type.
I hate their roach backs. It’s not good for trotting, it’s for galloping - generally only greyhound types have roached backs.
