The U.S. Secret Service plans to raise the height of the White House security fence by 5 feet and add a new concrete foundation to reduce the risk of fence-jumpers, according to a copy of an agency report obtained by the News4 I-Team.
The agency, along with the National Park Service, said it intends to begin building a taller, stronger fence to protect the White House grounds by 2018.
Details of the plan were included in an audio recording of a briefing made by federal officials, which was released to the I-Team Wednesday. The same briefing is expected to be presented May 5 at a meeting of the National Capital Planning Commission, which must first approve any changes to White House fencing.
The current fence simply is not adequate for a modern era. Weve said that before. It is becoming more and more acutely clear that that is in fact the case, Secret Service official Tom Dougherty said in the briefing to federal officials.

The White House spokesman ask the contractor from Kentucky, how much can you build our fence for? He takes some measurements, runs some numbers. pulls out his calculator, writes down some figures and says, "I can put a new taller fence around the White House for $50,000. I figure $20,000 for materials, $20,000 for labor and $10,000 profit for me."
Next the WH spokesman ask the contractor from Florida how much can you build the fence for? The contractor from Florida takes some measurements, runs some numbers, pulls out his calculator, writes down some figures and says, "I can put a new taller fence around the WH for $100,000. I figure $40,000 for materials, $40,000 for labor and $20,000 profit for me."
Next the WH spokesman ask the contractor from Chicago, how much can you build the fence for? The contractor looks at the spokesman and says, "I can build the new fence for $550,000." The spokesman says, "You didn't even take any measurements, you didn't even use your calculator to get any numbers. How did you come up with the figure of $550,000?" The contractor from Chicago pulls the WH spokesman over to the side and says, "I figured $250,000 for me, $250,000 for you and we hire the guy from Kentucky."
And that my friends is how business is done in Washington D.C.
FENCES DON’T WORK!
Won’t that leave a gap at the bottom?
LOL!
Make Mexico pay for it!
Just in time for President Trump.
If a border fence isn’t effective, why is there a border fence around the White House.
A fence? Why would they build a fence? I have been told that those are idiot and can’t work.
Now everything is clear.
This doesn’t make any sense. After all, aren’t White House fence-jumpers just undocumented visitors? And so shouldn’t all visitors be welcomed?
The whole thing is very confusing.
Perfect response to this story that doesn’t mention the nerve, irony chutzpah (or whatever the mooselimb equivalent is) and hypocrisy of the piece of garbage who occupies the white house.
I REALLY would like to know what prompted that decision.
Save the money until the feckless fool on the hill is gone, retired to his never ending post of interminable condemnation of all that comes after this shyster....
I suggest guard sheep.
Weird for a bunch of clowns who think that fences don’t work.
Fence?
That’s not who we are.
Should be building a bridge.
Hum...Sounds like Trump
Ordinarily, yes, but in this case, the rate of "manure" emanating from the White House at the present time, and landing on the White House lawn, far exceeds the rate of the raising of the fence, so there is no gap, just a very rotten smell.
Get rid of the fence, but put in a moat filled with gators.
