“I worry that Trump, with his previous leftist positions is another Bloomberg.”

Folks who are worried about Trump would do well to read his books. He’s held a great many positions that are in foursquare alignment with conservative ideals, for decades. It’s all documented, but few on either side seem willing to dig even a little bit to uncover his long-held views.

Instead, all we hear about are his ‘recent’ conversion to conservatism, and his long-term liberal views, both of which are mostly media created attack memes.

I grant that he’s not what most of us consider a ‘movement conservative’. He’s also not a hard boiled liberal. What he IS, is something very different, and very refreshing, which is a pragmatic populist with overtly pro-American approaches to the existential treats we face.

Trump wants to “make America great again”. Well isn’t that the entire underlying purpose and goal of movement conservatism? The only way to achieve Trump’s central aim, is to return the country to those ways of doing things that made us great to begin with, which is precisely what we conservatives are pushing for.

In the grand scheme of things, there’s no daylight between Trump’s key prescriptions for the country, and the deeply held desires of most conservatives.

Reading someones book that they wrote about themselves is not what I call digging. I would call it drinking their Kool-aid. I watch Trumps posturing and how he tries to influence opinion. He is now moving to the left as with his comments that someone should be able to use whichever bathroom they want. I think he has an authoritarian streak as wide as most leftists.
