A Navy carrier just broke the record for dropping bombs on ISIS

The USS Harry S. Truman is celebrating the work of its crew after setting the record for ordnance dropped on ISIS. The Truman launched over 1,118 ordinance pieces against terrorist targets over the past five months, surpassing the 1,085 dropped by the USS Theodore Roosevelt's pilots in 2015.

The Truman’s Carrier Air Wing 7 flew 1,407 combat sorties and dropped over 580 tons of ordnance on the Islamic State.

“Since our arrival in the Arabian Gulf, the Truman Strike Group has been conducting operations around the clock,” Capt. Ryan B. Scholl, Truman’s commanding officer, told a Navy journalist. “This deployment is busier than any other I’ve seen. Every Sailor is doing great work individually and executing as a combat team to reach this milestone. It is due to this dedication as a combined force that Truman is making a significant difference fighting for our country.”

Air Launched Cruise Missile
Submarine Launched Cruise Missile
Ground Launched Cruise Missile

IIRC, that is. I’ve been out for a while.

But did they hit anything?

We dropped millions of tons of bombs in WW2 that missed their targets by a mile. Even the Strategic Bombing Survey showed that often only 20% of a bomb drop hit their target.

I’m sure our guys did hit their targets most of the time because of better aiming mechanisms, including laser lighting, etc. so I’m not taking anything away from them.

They are doing their jobs and I have full faith that the airmen are doing their best to destroy the enemy. It is the PC cowards in the White House, State Dept. and DOD that I fear. Patton would have executed everyone of them if they were in his command or even over it. He did not tolerate cowards or fools, of which we have far to many today.

Sorry, I should have spelled it out.

Air Launched Cruise Missiles
Sea Launched Cruise Missiles
Ground Launched Cruise Missiles

The order of attack to start the air war was the Army Apaches found and destroyed the Iraqi mobile anti aircraft guns and missiles will Hellfires. They needed a pilot in the cockpit to find the targets in case they had moved a few miles.

Next the cruise missiles destroyed the fixed site heavier anti aircraft gun and missile sites closer into Baghdad. These sites were beyond the range of the Apaches, but since their were heavier, larger fixed anti aircraft sites and weren’t often moved, the cruise missiles were perfect.

That cleared a path for the F-117 stealth fighter/bombers, and the F-117s put on the best 4th of July fireworks show ever, blew up everything they wanted to, and all returned safety back to base.

Ain’t firepower, American warriors and a president with balls a great combination!

Not a good thing for life at sea. The noise from exploding bombs on deck can easily disturb the sound track of the wonderful movie being shown on the hanger deck!

I remember hearing that it was SOP on some carriers during WWII to never bring live ordinance back aboard. It would be dropped at sea if not expended on a target.

Be well.

“Sorry, I should have spelled it out.”

Thanks. I like getting the inside angle on America kicking ass. I got hooked listening to a friend of mine’s stories
in Vietnam. He was in Tiger Force 66. I never served but
listening to the stories make me proud of and respect our
military forces. It’s the only branch of the federal government
that actually hires the employable.
