Fast and Furious is back in the news. The reason? In January, Judge Amy Berman, an Obama appointee, ordered the Department of Justice to produce documents relating to the gun walking scandal that Congress had been seeking for four years. DOJ finally produced them, some 20,000 pages worth, this month.
For anyone who has forgotten about Fast and Furious, heres the short version. In 2010, a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol Agent was killed while on patrol near the Mexican border. The only two firearms found at the scene were semi-automatic rifles the Obama-Holder Justice Department allowed to walk. That operation allowed approximately 2,000 firearms to flow illegally into the hands of Mexican cartel associates.
When the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform tried to investigate the scandal, Team Obama stonewalled. First, it denied that law enforcement officers allowed straw purchasers to buy firearms illegally in the United States with the intent to traffic them without apprehension. Almost a year later, it finally admitted that this is precisely what had happened.
Second, when the Committee subpoenaed relevant documents, Eric Holders DOJ refused to produce them, citing executive privilege. The House voted to hold Holder in contempt and filed suit to obtain the documents. Three and half years later, Judge Jackson ordered production of the 20,000 pages mentioned above.
Having reviewed these documents, Jason Chaffetz, chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, has released a memo summarizing what they show. Chaffetz states:
More than previously understood, the documents show the lengths to which senior Department officials went to keep information from Congress. Further, the documents reveal how senior Justice Department officialsincluding Attorney General Eric Holderintensely followed and managed an effort to carefully limit and obstruct the information produced to Congress.

Redwood. IMHO the gun stores were forced to sell guns illegally to the cartels so 0 and his DOJ could swoop in, show proof the gun stores sold the weapons illegally, then use the constructed incident to attack our second amendment rights. At the very least be able to ban assualt weapons and high capacity mags. These folks are rotten to the core. If you believe something bad about them it is always worse in real life.
FWIW that is Marco Rubio in the pic at the top of the LameCherry page not Ted Cruz as the text says.
You’re correct.
LameCherry posted Cruz’s photo at the end of the article.
Did you happen to see it?
Yes, I did but it doesn’t match the text or have any other relevance to the story.
The best way I can answer your questions is through this article from the Nation Review: >http://www.nationalreview.com/article/430153/fast-furious-obama-first-scandal
This describes the process created and approved, obviously by the potus as early as 2009 we know of, and that the effect of the weapons has exploded to other areas than where they were originally allowed out of the country and were being used to kill people. And let's face it, the only real way to track an illegal weapon is when it is used. Your concern about high calibers and so called assault weapons, is noted by the one weapon found that would stop a car. And they would have got more or the deal wouldn't be worth their time or money based upon their obvious mistrust of the people in the process. And cartels get the guns and they USE THEM. red
Disestablishmentarian,
Well thought of. But the problem with it all is not who is killing with weapons we gave them, but the killing at all. And the opportunity for the DOJ to clean up the pieces after many are dead makes it look like your government is saving your cookies and protecting you when they are really putting you at risk. I don’t know of any cartel that can be trusted, and it was evidenced with the spreading of the weapons all over the southwest to be used by the many. I believe the liberals were up in arms about a like situation during the Reagan administration called Iran/Contra. I know some about that one and it is still the government passing out weapons for political purposes and costing lives.

Red, I do not disagree with you about the morality. I’m just saying to follow the money on these outrageous deals like F&F and the Iran nuke fiasco.
The drug trade is in the $hundreds of $billions per year. It depends upon sharing the wealth with law enforcement and government officials in many nations and on many levels of government. Believe it.
Iran nuke deal is $150 billion . . . gone pfft.
As a businessman, all my alarms go off on inexplicable deals like this. Generally, they become intelligible if you ever find out the payoffs.
Hence my suggestion that Obama and Kerrey bank accounts are going to be SIGNIFICANTLY fattened when this is over.
I am certainly NOT saying Sinaloa cartel is a worthy ally of the U.S.
Thanks for the thoughtful reply. Thirteen hour work day today. I is one whooped pup.
