Here's the question to ask about any candidate:
What states will they win that Romney lost?
If you can't come up with a plausible scenario where they do better than Romney then you've got a sure loser.
Trump can win Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, Ohio and Florida.
Which of those can Cruz win?
