JERSEY CITY -- A traffic stop near the Holland Tunnel yesterday evening lead to the recovery of a shotgun and nearly 200 rounds of ammunition, a police spokesman said.

At about 6:30 p.m., a police officer saw a blue plastic drum in the back up a pickup truck that had just passed through the Holland Tunnel toll plaza. The officer stopped the vehicle driven by a Pennsylvanian man to make sure there were no hazardous materials in the drum, Port Authority spokesman Joe Pentangelo said.

Police asked the driver Marlon Murphy, 45, of Easton, if there were any weapons in the back of his truck. Murphy told the officer there was a shotgun in the barrel, Pentangelo said.

So what?

In free states, nothing. In nanny states like New York or New Jersey, it's panty-wetting time.

Now that's confidence!

My dad was like that. And he taught us to shoot to kill. To have the confidence and determination (skills) to KILL whatever you aimed a loaded gun at as swiftly and humanely as possible.

Maybe it is this Marlon Murphy and there was another reason other than the shotgun:

Wed, 29 Oct 2014 13:23:40 GMT — A Detroit, Illinois man has been arrested after allegedly taking pictures or video of children in Pittsfield.

Marlon Murphy, 45, was arrested Tuesday night.

Pike County State’s Attorney Matt Goetten charged Murphy with one count of child pornography

arl295 :" Poor guy, probably thought he was still in the United States.”

Exactly True !
Another American failing to recognize that he was going through "almost America", and entering, now called "NEW Joyziee ",
where you are guilty, until proven innocent by the "Joyzeee Boys " called the legal establishment.
"Ignorance of the law" is no longer considered a viable defense .. since you transgressed the sovereignty of Joyzee.
Why is it the New Joyzee has soverignty, and ignores the Constitution,
but the FED,gov has "Open Borders" ,
but doesn't enforce the Constitution, nor does it recognize its' sovereignty or borders ?

During the stop, the driver, Marlon Murphy, 45, of Easton, Pennsylvania, said the drum contained a shotgun and ammunition.

Mageros found a 12-gauge shotgun wrapped in a pair of pants inside the drum, Port Authority Police spokesman Joe Pentangelo said. He also found 175 rounds of ammunition.

Murphy, who could produce no documentation for the shotgun, was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon. He was being held in lieu of $30,000 bail and his truck was impounded.

That is the serious side of the situation...aside from all the kidding happening in this thread.

The poor guy may have never so much as gotten a parking ticket in his life, and now he is in JAIL, his clean truck is probably in a shambles already at impound, he is likely facing a NJ felony, and he is on the hook for $30,000 bail. That is the kind of insanity that could drive a normal person to swing from the ceiling by his belt or shoestrings.

I will wager since he is likely one of the "good guys" he had no idea of the full-weight of predatory law enforcement that was about to drop on his head. This is very grave and very unfortunate news for this man. Such a tragic thing to hear from what was almost certainly an honest mistake. :-(

Yep, criminal record, and will never be able to purchase a firearm again anywhere.

He probably thought he was doing the right thing, keeping the weapon in the bed of the truck, not accessible, etc. I would never go to New Jersey. I remember reading another story about a guy driving through from one state to another, parked to rest in New Jersey, and got busted for a weapon legally registered in his home state. To me, that sort of situation would be a clear violation of the Commerce Clause of the US constitution, but good luck convincing most courts of it.

If he followed these rules he’s protected by federal law:

18 U.S. Code § 926A - Interstate transportation of firearms -

“Notwithstanding any other provision of any law or any rule or regulation of a State or any political subdivision thereof, any person who is not otherwise prohibited by this chapter from transporting, shipping, or receiving a firearm shall be entitled to transport a firearm for any lawful purpose from any place where he may lawfully possess and carry such firearm to any other place where he may lawfully possess and carry such firearm if, during such transportation the firearm is unloaded, and neither the firearm nor any ammunition being transported is readily accessible or is directly accessible from the passenger compartment of such transporting vehicle”

Provided
“That in the case of a vehicle without a compartment separate from the driver’s compartment the firearm or ammunition shall be contained in a locked container other than the glove compartment or console.”

In Texas, I don’t think the cops would get very far with a judge on “probable cause”. “Well, uh, Judge, he was carrying a blue barrel so I pulled him over?”

Judge: “Well, officer, would you have pulled him over if the barrel was white?.....or black?..............or orange? If not, what is threatening to society about a BLUE barrel!

This unfortunate man was treating the situation like it is handled, plainly and honestly, in about 95% of the country.

He likely never thought to say, "My cordless drill, drywall screws, some sheetrock, and spackle" as normal people do not think to LIE when questioned by a (supposedly) helpful police officer.

He is probably thinking he lost his job at a minimum. Then add criminal charges, and costs to liberate his truck. The poor guy has had his life completely upended.
Even if he can get lenient treatment in court, it will be a HUGE mess in his life. So sad.

“Maybe it is this Marlon Murphy”

Respectfully, that’s a bit of a stretch, considering the articles are from 2014 and 2016, both listing Murphy as being age 45.

You’re probably right. Probably would have needed to lock the barrel, etc.
NJ has some odd laws. At least Christie pardoned a few guys for this sort of stuff over the last year.
