That is the serious side of the situation...aside from all the kidding happening in this thread.
The poor guy may have never so much as gotten a parking ticket in his life, and now he is in JAIL, his clean truck is probably in a shambles already at impound, he is likely facing a NJ felony, and he is on the hook for $30,000 bail. That is the kind of insanity that could drive a normal person to swing from the ceiling by his belt or shoestrings.
I will wager since he is likely one of the "good guys" he had no idea of the full-weight of predatory law enforcement that was about to drop on his head. This is very grave and very unfortunate news for this man. Such a tragic thing to hear from what was almost certainly an honest mistake. :-(

Yep, criminal record, and will never be able to purchase a firearm again anywhere.
He probably thought he was doing the right thing, keeping the weapon in the bed of the truck, not accessible, etc. I would never go to New Jersey. I remember reading another story about a guy driving through from one state to another, parked to rest in New Jersey, and got busted for a weapon legally registered in his home state. To me, that sort of situation would be a clear violation of the Commerce Clause of the US constitution, but good luck convincing most courts of it.

I will wager since he is likely one of the "good guys" he had no idea ...Why do so many on this thread assume Murphy is a "good guy"?
Murphy's mug shot (left) reminds me of John Allen Muhammed (right). Remember him?
Maybe an alert tunnel security agent observed something else ... besides the blue barrel ... like nervous behavior. Maybe security personnel even used [gasp] some kind of profiling!

...and now for something in a slightly related story. The State of Mississippi just passed ‘Constitutional Carry’!!!
