Seacrest out! Ryan Seacrest left fans confused and speculative after he gave his final sign-off on the series finale of American Idol on Thursday, April 7. With tears in his eyes, the host ended the show with a cryptic goodbye, which he later explained on Twitter.
As season 15 winner Trent Harmon celebrated his victory with fellow contestants, an emotional Seacrest, 41, stood off to the side and told the audience, One more time this is so tough we say to you, from Hollywood, goodnight America, before slyly adding, For now.
I didnt want to say goodbye last night, the radio personality explained on Twitter on Friday, April 8. Thank you for 15 amazing seasons #IdolFinale.
Earlier in the week, American Idol creator Simon Fuller told Billboard that the hit Fox singing competition will certainly be coming back one day.
There will no doubt be another format or refinement or elevation of the format, the producer, 55, explained. Now I can actually revamp it and come up with a new version. And we can look back on 15 seasons and think of some legitimate ways to allow people to enjoy them again, maybe adding another dimension to it.
Fuller added, My head is exploding with opportunities. The next generation of Idol and Idol will certainly be coming back for sure will have a youthful glow and it will be pioneering again, just as it was when we first began.
American Idol crowned Harmon, 25, the series 15th winner (with fan favorite LaPorsha Renae as the runner-up) during a star-studded finale, which included appearances from Seacrests former cohost, Brian Dunkleman, past judges Nicki Minaj, Kara DioGuardi, Ellen DeGeneres and Steven Tyler, and countless beloved contestants, including Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Fantasia Barrino and Jennifer Hudson. The shows original judging panel Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson also reunited for the emotional episode.
Enough. Bring back good variety shows like Carol Burnett, Red Skelton, Ed Sullivan, etc.
Sadly, there is no market for such shows. Reality is it now.
Idol is done? Oh wait, I never watched so I don’t care.
I really enjoyed AI over the years. Sad to see it end, but it had run its course. The finale was very enjoyable. Got to see some of my favorites again, such as Elliot Yamin and Melinda Doolittle. I hope that the show’s producers let Idol RIP.
LOVED the Carol Burnett show!
That is a most impressive accomplishment, I’m so glad you shared.
Personally I enjoyed AI because I followed it along with a live thread here on Free Republic. It was a fun diversion, like watching a train wreck....
Anyway congratulations on your accomplishment.
The screenwriters guild committed professional suicide and left us with this mess.
Awww, come on, yes you do, admit it, and I have the proof, here for all time. You cared enough to post.
We would occasionally tune in to watch some of the auditions from the early shows, but never watched a complete season until this year. We thought LaPortia would win this season but realized toward the end that although she had a great voice, she pretty much sounded the same in every song. Trent had more range and could do country or rock. He deserved to win. Loved seeing dunkelman return to the show. He appeared in the first season with Seacrest then was never heard from again. He played if off in a humorous way, as did Simon Cowell who everyone loved to hate. They even had the pants on the ground guy and she bang guy show up. Great job, AI!
I think good entertainment is desired. Despite the insertion of PC references and bathroom humor, Disney animated features outdo most of the drek Hollywood now offers. A funny, innovative, uplifting, inspiring variety show I believe would be popular. One that operates on multiple levels and is suitable for the entire family (the occasional, nuanced double entendre OK).The main problem, as I understand, is the production costs of creating such a show on a weekly basis. “Reality” programming is a relatively cheap way to put “entertainment” on the air.
Amazing what captivates the attention of Americans nowadays.
You give a true answer to why “reality shows” have been popular and it is called “cost”.
Good! ;)
