Dark web mapping reveals that half of the content is legal
Helpnet Security ^ | 4/8/16 | Zeljka Zorz

A recent global survey commissioned by the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) showed that seven in ten (71%) global citizens say the “dark net” – “an area of the internet only accessible via special web browsers that allow you to surf the web anonymously” – should be shut down.

The Centre doesn’t say whether the polled individuals were made aware of what the “dark net” is and is used for (illegal things, but also to keep journalists, human rights activists, dissidents and whistleblowers safe while they are trying to carry out their job/mission) before answering the question. If not, it may be assumed that most of them have heard only about the illegal stuff effected with it.

At this point, though, I have to stop and clarify several things. The dark web exists on a variety of dark nets. Some are small, “private” peer-to-peer networks, others are large networks operated by public organizations and individuals (think Tor, Freenet, I2P). But the terms “dark web” and “dark net” are often (erroneously) used interchangeably.

I’m going to take a wild stab and say that when those who performed the aforementioned survey really meant “dark web” instead of “dark net,” and possibly some of the polled individuals thought the same, but in either case the results would likely be similar, if not the same.

What, exactly, is the percentage of legal and illegal content on the dark web?

Cyber threat intelligence firm Intelliagg and dark net indexing company Darksum have recently released the results of their efforts to map the dark web (in this case, only the Tor network), and they are as follows:

“We believe it is important for the public to gain a better understanding of the contents of the dark web in order for there to be a proper debate about its nature, dangers – and potential benefits,” the companies say. “Misunderstanding about the dark net is rife, and has been fuelled by often misleading media coverage. This, in turn, has influenced policy debates based on incorrect assumptions and hyperbole.”

Their plan is to regularly monitor the situation on the dark web and its evolution. As they noted, an important characteristic of the dark web is that it is transitory and ever changeable.

"28 % leaked data"

That's all the Feds need to see to want to shut it down. If they do other methods will pop up. After all many wars were won by communication methods other than the Internet...

Maybe it’s where the Cruzlims park their prayer rugs and teach each other how to repel more voters than they already do.

It also makes pedophiles find it easier to exchange sick videos and exchange places to go where child sex can be bought.

Also good for heroin trade.

I know it is hard to be in a minority, but try to show some dignity! It is a given that we live, rent free, in your mind, so we really don’t have to attack Ted Cruz any more! You Cruzadians imagine the attacks as soon as anything about Cruz is mention! Why, right now you are thinking all sorts of bad things that I could have said about Ted Cruz but didn’t!

LOL. You should go to Open Secrets and check out Trump. No money in the bank and a big loan. Who is that loan from? I assume Trump. I'm certain it's Trump.

So tell me, if Trump is "Funding his own campaign", why isn't he giving the money to his campaign?

Answer (from my obviously distorted Cruzian POV): He expects someone else to pay it back.

There may be other reasons but they escape me.

LOL. It was a joke. Didn't you spot the little smiley face?

OTOH I have noted that most of the comments coming from Trump folks are attacks, very personal attacks, on Freepers who don't accept Trumps apparently God Given Right to the GOP Nomination. Rational discussion of polling, tactics and such just don't seem to be happening. For my money the Cruz folks are the more civilized. But, you may see it differently.

Of course Cruz supporters are more civilized! They are the establishment! The establishment always defines what civilization means! They could be throwing Christians to the lions, and still call themselves the “civilized” ones. ;-)

Here is a test for a true Trumpster:

You hold a button in your hand.
Press the Green Button and Hillary is released from captivity.
Press the Red Button and Hillary is thrown to the lions.

Which button will you press?

;)

My observation wasn’t harsh....just factual.....

Since the heavy involvement of Establishment money, personnel, PACs and other resources have poured into the Cruz campaign, little if nothing is heard from Cruzonians....

Almost all were heavily anti-establishment prior, now not a word.....

Cruz expected that the establishment would back him from the beginning...so virulent was the #NeverTrump forces within the establishment, it was just a matter of time.....

He is/was the establishment dark horse......

His soul is now bought and paid for......

Here is the OpenSecrets.org listing for the Cruz campaign.

What you will see is that yes, there is outside money funding Cruz. That's pretty traditional in this business since not everyone running for President is typically a $Billionaire.

But please note also the $27,583,448 in SMALL INDIVIDUAL CONTRIBUTIONS and the $38,577,106 in the LARGE INDIVIDUAL CONTRIBUTIONS category. Those "LARGE" individual contributions are limited by law to less than $2700 per election.

That adds up to an Individual Contributions Total of $66,160,553. I think that is the little or nothing heard from the Curzonians you were referencing. See if you can find that amount of small money support for Trump.

Hopefully he reports his money contributions better than he did for his Goldman Sachs....err.... I mean Senate campaign....

Plus....what’s recorded there is the tip of the iceberg of the money and resources supporting his run....

Lying Ted, you are bought and paid for.....

What are you talking about? And how do you know? Give me some links. Give me some data. I supply numbers. You supply what? Nothing. Nothing.

This is a big problem Trump Supporters. You are lots of talk. No facts. Believe only the good polls. Assume without any proof that the GOPe secretly owns Cruz but is just using him and he's too dumb to see what is obvious to any average Trumpster.

Sure.
