Right before the Iowa caucuses, real estate mogul Donald Trump wormed out of a Fox News debate because he was scared of moderator Megyn Kelly, so he held an event to raise money for veterans. Over two months later, the veterans have yet to receive the money.
The Wall Street Journal reports that they surveyed 19 of the 22 groups that the Trump campaign said they would be donating to, and discovered that only $2.4 million has been given to the veterans. The event raised roughly $6 million.
The organizations that did get money received it in checks that were as low as $5,000 to as high as $100,000 from the Donald J. Trump Foundation. Others received money from other organizations and weren't aware that the money was rooted from Trump's event.
"Its a little weird," Keith David of the Task Force Dagger Foundation, a Texas group assisting Special Operations Command personnel, told the Journal.
Trump's campaign spokeswoman, Hope Hicks, told the Journal, "Mr. Trump has distributed many of the contributions to a number of worthy organizations, and will continue to do so."
Back in January, The Federalist found that the website Trump set up for the veterans, donaldtrumpforvets.com, sends the money directly to the Trump foundation.
"There is absolutely no accountability here for how Trump will spend this money," RedState's Leon Wolf wrote. "This is how hucksters like Trump operate. Rather than say that hes going to raise money for a reputable vets organization of which there are many he diverts the money to his own sham tax shelter and hopes that his supporters never notice or demand an accounting for what was done with their money, as would be done for any 501 (c)(3) that was set up with the specific purpose for helping vets."
Wolf noted that the foundation hadn't done much with the money they had raised in the past. But here is one thing they have done: the Journal's report points out that the Trump foundation has come under scrutiny for making a donation in 2013 to Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi when she was "considering whether to take legal action against Trump University for possible fraud." Naturally, Bondi didn't take legal action against the university and has endorsed Trump for president.
When will the veterans see the rest of that $6 million that Trump raised? Based on the foundation's actions so far, it doesn't seem like they will get it anytime soon.
Don’t forget Cruz blaming Trump for the Brussels attack, when I heard him say this, I was enraged!

You tell me. You take in millions but give out $75k?
“You and your merry band of anti-Trump trolls are really pathetic. Enjoy spending your day posting anti-Trump drivel”
Look at the bright side. We’ll always know which FReepers were pre-Clinton.
Unfortunately, I think when Trump is president and he is in control of doling out taxpayer’s cash, he’ll be a bit more benevolent. It’s always easier with someone else’s money.
No, Trump raised 6 million allegedly for veterans two months ago, but the vets have only gotten 2.4 million. THAT makes Trump a huckster.
Trump has said that some of the pledge money has not yet been received and as soon as it is received it will be distributed. I believe him. He’s a billionaire he’s not stealy $2-$3 million dollars from the Vets for God’s sake.
Cruz has represented Veterans pro bono at the Supreme Court. He has also written and gotten passed legislation giving the Ft. Hood victims Purple Heart status and benefits.
Did they investigate to see if Biden donated his used underwear this year?
This site is getting out of control with the constant anti-Trump bashing. It’s the same 5-10 posters all day everyday posting the same article in 5 different variants. I can log on anytime of day and I can tell you exaclty which posters will be active on the board.
Here are my replies from that thread to which you have referred:
Did Donald Trump Profit off the Amputees?
In light of Donald Trump’s record in which he has been accused of fraud by his students at Trump University in a class-action suit, tenants in his building in which multiple plaintiffs claim fraud, and purchasers of condominiums in his buildings in a suit in which Donald Trump has recently paid hush money, it is not unreasonable to ask whether Donald Trump actually profited at the expense of our veterans with whom Trump gained millions of dollars of publicity for his campaign.
....................
raising cash and cheating the worthy cause of the proceeds is certainly reason to dislike such a grifter. Previous allegations of fraud against Donald Trump are relevant. Nevertheless, even with the benefit of all the allegations against Donald Trump which I have specified and many many more, I made no allegations of fraud on his part, I simply asked the question.
Even apart from fraud, the specter of gross hypocrisy is raised as Trump claimed time and again in the debates and otherwise that he was raising millions for veterans. I think our veterans and the voting public are all entitled to a full and open accounting from Trump.
Just as countless Trump supporters have done respecting Ted Cruz and Goldman Sachs-come to think of it they go beyond posing a question, they flat-out assert wrongdoing.
.................................
The reported numbers beg the question, what happened to the rest of the money?
Donald Trump’s highly questionable dealings in which he has been repeatedly accused of fraud, beg for an accounting at minimum .
Let’s see, you imply:
The story is not about the missing money.
The story is not about the series of allegations over the years of fraud lodged against Donald Trump.
The story is not about the hush money Donald Trump paid yesterday to buy the silence of those who sued him for fraud.
The story is not about the need for an accounting by Trump.
No, the story is all about me.
The judges are not fools. If the plaintiff complained that the market turned on them those judges would’ve dismissed the case in a heartbeat but they did not so complain, they alleged misrepresentations.
They did not complain of the market, they complained of fraud done by Trump. Just as condo buyers did (whose silence Trump just bought).
Yes I do give a damn whether the President of the United States of America whose fingers will be figuratively only inches away from the red button is a liar, a cheat, and a grifter.
While the chance that Donald Trump personally profited, or even attempted to profit, from fraud respecting these veterans is probably remote, it is quite possible that the accounting was sloppy, or the expenses which were deducted from the veterans portion were inflated, or there is simply inertia in the bookkeeping process.
Trump’s history of being accused of outright fraud and sharp dealings entitles him to no deference in this matter and screams out for an accounting.
In any event, these questions are certainly relevant in judging a candidate one of whose planks is that he will clean up the Veterans Administration. If he cannot manage one simple event why are we then to believe that he can reform and manage the vast veterans administration?
My evidence? Why do you presume to put a burden on me to provide evidence? I explicitly stated “I make no allegations of fraud
I simply asked the question”
All of this was plainly stated in the reply to which you are responding:
Previous allegations of fraud against Donald Trump are relevant. Nevertheless, even with the benefit of all the allegations against Donald Trump which I have specified and many many more, I made no allegations of fraud on his part, I simply asked the question.
Let us assume that Donald Trump is innocent of committing personal fraud in this affair. We do not know if any fraud of any kind has been committed or, if so, by whom. It does, however, raise questions of competency. Where is the money? Where is an accounting?
Is there simply inertia in producing an accounting? Is there sharp dealing by the Trump campaign in inflating expenses thus reducing the share for the veterans? How was all of this handled? Were expenses even deducted, if so how much?
At the very least, questions of hypocrisy are raised and certainly questions of competency: Donald Trump has bragged that he will clean up the Veterans Administration yet it appears that he cannot even competently manage one single event on behalf of veterans.
Let’s get the accounting and see what happened. Meanwhile in view of this fiasco and in view of serial charges of fraud and bankruptcy, Donald should shut the hell up about how he is going to fix the Veterans Administration.
“...Their Money”
I stopped reading right there.
And I’m a vet - in a family of vets...
As you say the money appears to be being distributed as it comes in. One issue that isn’t discussed in the article is that all “veterans charities” need to be checked out for legitimacy. My wife and I contribute a lot of time, effort and money to veterans causes and we get calls all the time from groups that are questionable at best and many are outright scams. There are also many organizations that spend the bulk of the money they collect on high paid leadership, TV & radio commercials. It would be an even bigger problem for Trump if some of this money was found to be going to charities that were exposed to be scams.
If anyone is wondering, our personal favorite and an organization we volunteer for is the USO. People think of entertainment for troops when they think of the USO, but the organization does far more than that for veterans and their families. It is 100% legitimate and the volunteers and the work that is done is amazing.
“Meanwhile Cruz has not donated a dime to them and shows very little if any support for our military.”
It is worse than that. Cruz has disrupted federal money on two occasions, which kept military personnel from being paid as well as delayed projects for months creating additional cost overruns. The active duty military I talk with do not support Cruz since Cruz doesn’t support them.
You need to direct your ire toward the people and corporations that pledged money and then renegged, not to Trump who is following through when the pledges come in.
No, Trump raised 6 million allegedly for veterans two months ago, but the vets have only gotten 2.4 million. THAT makes Trump a huckster.
And Cruz making millions, giving basically nothing to charity and portraying himself as a pious Christian? What does that make Ted Cruz?
Article says that they raised six million and distributed 2.4 million to vetrans groups so far. However the headline suggests they distributed nothing so far...but of course it does so in inprecise language to give some wiggle room to the rather appropriate charge that the headline is propaganda.
Trump spits on the sidewalk at job sites.
Trump never denounced cannibalism.
In 1982, Trump once walked through a door without holding it open for the woman with him. Trump hates women.
I think I'm ready for RedState.
Excellent look deep into the minds Cruzies here.
Trump raises $2.4 million for vets and he’s a huckster.
Cruz drives around in a Mercedes, gives basically nothing to charity and ostentatiously displays himself as a pious Christian while trolling for votes. And he’s the “principled conservative”.
Cruzies are beyond parody. LOL.
There’s a certain element of conservative that’s just as crazy as the left wing environmentalists and other assorted moonbats that fly around on the left. Many of them are the Cruz posters on this site. Sad actually.
