Zika mystery deepens with evidence of nerve cell infections
Yahoo! news ^ | April 5, 2016 | Julie Steenhuysen

CHICAGO (Reuters) - Top Zika investigators now believe that the birth defect microcephaly and the paralyzing Guillain-Barre syndrome may be just the most obvious maladies caused by the mosquito-borne virus.

Fueling that suspicion are recent discoveries of serious brain and spinal cord infections - including encephalitis, meningitis and myelitis - in people exposed to Zika.

Evidence that Zika's damage may be more varied and widespread than initially believed adds pressure on affected countries to control mosquitoes and prepare to provide intensive - and, in some cases, lifelong - care to more patients. The newly suspected disorders can cause paralysis and permanent disability -

Jihadist who have read “Mein Kamph” have not killed 80,000,000 to qualify. Nor will they. Point of fact it has taken the jihadis since 628 AD to present to murder 240,000,000 - just slightly more that Mao and Jughashvili combined murdered in 70 years. Hitler and “Mein Kamph” are pikers in the murder business.

Little Red book is the undisputed number one, with number two - the hard to impossible to find “Autobiography of Joseph Vissarionovich Jughashvili - the Man of Steel” and his documented 62,000,000 murdered.

If one wanted to add "all time biggest killers" to your book list, one would have to add

The Koran

Most of that time they were using pretty primitive methods. Now, they have missiles and soon, nukes, at the rate things are going.

They aren't out of the game yet.

As for Stalin's Autobiography, that probably didn't account for the killings, so much as the man himself. The book isn't a major factor, the man was.

As books go, The Communist Manifesto was more widely read.

We have no idea how many have died from vector-borne diseases which could have been virtually wiped out if not for Silent Spring.

I made up the Stalin book to show the fallacy of blaming the murder of millions on a book - the Qu’oran would qualify, but it was over such a long period that it really does not compare for the rapid murder by socialism of the modern eras.

Muslims will be out of the game fast if they go too far - Mecca & Medina will be utterly destroyed along with the central premise of Islam that allah is more powerful that the Christian or Jewish G-d. And that will be the end of the scourge of Islam. This is particularly possible as the Saudi oil deposits become more and more irrelevant with the increase of fracking in the US and elsewhere.

Nice touch, but that proves that any such book was of more limited influence than the others. I was unable to find a copy or reference, therefore figured it did not change many minds. It isn't the book, it is the ideas that are contained therein which poison the well of humanity. The book is merely a vehicle.

That said, I do not believe in banning books.

I do believe, however that the minds behind the eyes which read such books need to be prepared, armed if you will, with the ability to perform critical analysis on the statements in those books, to be able to ferret out the fallacies therein, and not be influenced by the ravings of lunatics.

In the absence of such preparation, we get the totalitarian regimes of human history, rife with abuses of power for fun and profit and 'just because', all justified by some twisted philosophy.

As for the Saudi oil deposits becoming irrelevant, well no, they are a natural resource, a geological feature which will remain, regardless of who has control over them, until depleted. As long as oil has value, those deposits will, just like a lode of gold ore. With enough effort we can manage without those reserves on line (and put a lot of us in the oil patch back to work).

One of the reason not to nuke the Saudis was their absolute control of the world’s oil supply - this was the reference - as that relevance wanes their continued export of Wababism becomes a liability and opens them up to absolute destruction.

True, but the Iranians may be as much or more of a threat there as any Western nation. Imho, this is the sort of thing neutron bombs were conceived for. population elimination, infrastructure preservation, low residual effect. None of the jihad nations are constrained by any agreements to not develop one, not that such would matter anyway.

All it would take is one cleric ruling that the Kabbah had been distributed across a region, and it was the will of their god, and they would continue.

Except that back around 9/11/2001, those same clerics said that such a destruction would contravene the absoluteness of allah and he would be a false god, less powerful that the Christians’ god who had caused his sacred site to be destroyed. In that case, they recommended either converting to Christianity, Judaism or atheism.

So no a cleric ruling like that would never be made - besides praying five times a day to a destroyed god, destroyed and made radioactive by Christians, would be so humiliating they would die first.

If you dispute that, let’s try it and see ...

I doubt vaporizing the rock would do as much good as some enhanced energy devices, but it would be an interesting experiment.

Even vaccines are not 100% effective.

WHO just said a production vaccine is years away.

The statement was a generality about vaccines, not intended as an indication there exists a vaccine for Zika. Sorry, I’ll be more specific next time.

Original CDC said 12 States to be affected
New revision is up to 30-32 States affected by Zika
When combined with the possible neurological residual effects on adults ,
the failure to detect cross-transmission through sexual contacts, and auto-immune suppression effects,
this is a Nationwide potential catastrophe (!) for generations to come.

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...
