I recall being a 19 year old kid, hitch hiking from LA to Seattle and being picked up by a guy in San Francisco. I could not help but notice his ring, a World Series Ring. I asked about it. He said he played for the Orioles against the Dodgers a few years back (I was a Dodger fan, Orioles had won in foour).
I asked him his name, but had to admit I had never heard of him.
He wasn't offended, he said he was a relief pitcher and never made an appearance.
But he had the ring!
Great story!
GO ROYALS!
I remember that 1966 World Series.
I think except for the first game, in which Moe Drabowsky pitched about 6 innings of relief, that the Orioles pitchers pitched complete game victories in the remaining games.
So the Orioles bullpen was not needed in that series.
I still can't believe he handed that thing to me, must have weighed a pound....nothing like the big ass rings today though. I had a nightmare that I dropped it and the ring rolled down the aisle in the plane.
