Stick A Fork In Common Core—It’s Done
The Federalist ^ | 4 Apr, 2016 | Joy Pullmann

If you’re glued to the trashy, monotonous 2016 horserace, just like the presidential candidates still insisting they will end Common Core you will have missed that the cornerstone of President Obama’s education policy has already become a tombstone. That’s right: Common Core is dead. The big postmortems will roll out in a year or two, but it’s already clear this education monstrosity is eking out its last gasps.

Not that many normal people paid much attention to the biggest shift in U.S. education for decades, to hear Buzzfeed tell it in the recent video below. To recap, Common Core is an organizing scheme that aims to control all of American education, from preschool through college. Its core is a set of testing and curriculum blueprints being used as a lever to get all of what kids learn in every subject and at every age into “alignment” with its centrally planned, academically low-quality, and one-size-fits-all mandates.

Common Core has by now not only failed academically, it has failed operationally. This is a horrific outcome. None of us who oppose Common Core are happy to be able to say “I told you so,” because it means our predictions that consultants would enrich themselves while mashing millions of children and teachers into chaos have come true.

Be wary though if your state or locality make a decision to drop common core. The replacement is often common core dressed up with a different name.

Anyone who opposes Common Core will be prosecuted and sent to prison along with the Climate Change Deniers. Anyone who challenges the Leftist dogma will be destroyed. Do you not understand who is running the country now?

Actually, I reviewed Massachusetts's version as part of a research project, I think it is called Mass Core or something like that.

It wasn't bad. It focused on American and British classics and what I call "founding documents" of our history. I was surprised. In a good way.

As a former teacher, I can tell you that the standards mean far less than how the teacher in the classroom implements (or does not implement) them.

My objection is that states adopted the Common Core standards under a bribe/coercion.

The author is overly optimistic, in my opinion. CC is well funded and supported by very powerful members of the “establishment” on both sides of the political aisle

If Common Core is dead, it is only through the efforts of Donald Trump.

Likewise, the wall, of course.

It has been a huge success. The liberals and nwo crowd have made americans successively more stupid, yet again.

But it’s government product. A lot of dead things continue in use, from obsolete ordnance and vehicles to public school teachers to Democratic voters.
CC could be around for many years yet.

Common core will re-appear under a different moniker just like global warming morfed into climate change. The basic tenants of Common core are to important to the Marxist educational elite (information gathering, child tracking, and the social justice aspects). It will take a miracle to wrest this country back.

Communist Core was an attempt to raise the bottom by inhibiting the top.

The math program is a bunch of garbage that does not teach how to solve a problem.

The reading program is stuck on the failed ideas of that crackpot John Dewey.

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

The replacement will be a Common Core of another name. Plus, the damage is already done. Students have been exposed to it for too long. CC was about wealth redistribution anyway. Pearson made a bundle off of their CC material that schools (via taxpayers) were required to purchase, and in turn they lined Congress's pockets. I'd love to know who at Pearson is related to D.C. lobbyists.

Be careful with just looking at the standards. What I’ve found with CC is that the required material puts a very negative slant on Western values. I teach American literature and there is still a focus on the classics, founding documents, Romanticism, and realism. The main ideas have always focused on are the American dream, freedom, rugged individualism, and optimism. Regardless of the document, American literature contains one or more of these themes. With CC, the themes are twisted to address the negative. The focus of the required teaching material is how groups of people are treated differently (read badly) by the United States. There is no optimistic outlook on how Americans have embraced our historic scars and created a better country. It’s frustrating.

On the contrary, not only am I happy to say “I told you so” I am eager to tie this (metaphorically) to liberals and idiots who supported common core like a dead and rotting albatross.

It will be an indicator of their lack of both judgement and intellect which I will have perpetually at hand.

Which is as it should be.
