Communist Core was an attempt to raise the bottom by inhibiting the top.

The math program is a bunch of garbage that does not teach how to solve a problem.

The reading program is stuck on the failed ideas of that crackpot John Dewey.

method of multiplication because he didn’t understand the matrix method. He understood it in 20 minutes, did his assignment, turned it in.
The teacher gave him an F because he had the wrong method despite the right answers. I blew up at her for it, and she suggested the reason we didn’t understand Common Core is that we’re bad at math. (Two engineer parents).

They DELIBERATELY invented new ways to solve problems to render old texts impossible to use, invented new terminology complete with parental dictionaries so parents look like idiots, and then licensed all the tests, quizzes, workbooks and so forth to profit from every piece of curriculum and tutoring content. It was big business meets big education.
Why did the government like it? Because it let them gain control of the curriculum, inserting far left lessons in every grade without having to face states that fought it in the textbook wars. And with all the content digital and copyrighted, parents didn’t KNOW what the kids were learning until you get the tests back saying Founding Fathers are like Muslim terrorists, Muslims have greater faith than Christians, or the most puzzling one my oldest reported, global warming lectures in PE along with how not to overheat while working out.

My grandson’s 1st grade teacher exempted him from the “art” part of Common Core since he always knew the answer as soon as he saw the problem. A great teacher, a real blessing. By the time he was in 4th grade he was taking 10th grade math. More teachers ignoring Common Core.
