It is the use of the pronouns I Me My that is the problem here. Marriage is the demotion of the individual for the sake of the covenant.

I deal with people like this everyday. As frustrating as it is, it’s a constant reminder for me to work on being the best husband to my wife that I can be.

Just remember to clean the chipper. With bleach. The details will get you caught every time.

The I, me, my is referring to owning your feelings, or taking responsibility for your actions, in a disagreement or perceived slight, as opposed to a you statement, which is accusatory. But you are right as far as the sacrifice of self called for in the union.
I always love how secular people and feminists denigrate a Christian marriage because the woman is called to submit, but the verse right before that part of scripture in Ephesians 5 calls for a Christian household to "Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ", and is followed by how the man is called to love as Christ did for the church, in other words, sacrifice everything for her. That is why feminists hate a man holding a door open for them, or any other act of chivalry. Its not that you can't do it yourself, ladies, its that real men are called to do it.

I think that in that story the would be husband is the problem, and counseling won’t create a marriage.
Just a thought.

They pay money.
So that a person —a stranger— can understand their marriage.
More than they themselves do...?

You don;t pay a prostitute for sex...I can get that anywhere for free. I’m paying her to LEAVE and not take half my stuff.

Greatest misunderstanding about marriage: it’s a place to get my needs met.
NO!
It’s the place to learn to die to self and lay down your life for another - and learn what it is to love another more than self.
Seriously doubt Mandy ever heard this, from their therapist or anyone else.........
