Time to go

Posted on 03/29/2016 9:55:02 AM PDT by jstaff

When Sundance replaced Mark Levin in the hearts of so many Freepers, I should have taken the hint. The site has become almost totally partisan. That partisanship is leading to such incredible, slanderous commentary that you would have to look twice to see if you are at FR or DU. We talk about a circular firing squad, and here one pops up. We are destroying our chance to move the ultra left out of the White House by trying to destroy each other.

So finally, sadly, I think it is time for me to go, I don't want to be a part of it anymore. I have mostly enjoyed my time here, it used to be a great place, and I was happy to add what little support I could to keeping it up.

To Jim: please check your mail. I sent you a request to delete my account information, but I guess you haven't seen it yet. Good luck with FR and I hope it survives this election cycle without any real bloodshed.

Mods: Please delete my FR account.

FR is just a reflection of something much larger across our country. It is a fight for freedom that is not nice and smooth. It lurches and can be harsh, not unlike our beginnings. I’d rather participate in the tumultuous, lurching, and even divisive effort for freedom than the quiet, “smooth” acquiescence of entrenched, corrupt career politicians and growing tyranny lo these many years.

Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact all the rhetoric on FR is healthy, minus the childish insults, and should be seen as a search for the truth of the political scene.

We have been subjected to a coup in America. If we want to save this country for our children and grandchildren and beyond, we had better ferret out the truth.

That said, ask yourself who, between Trump and Cruz is more likely to sell out America with increased legal immigration, terrible trade deals and a North American Union.

Another 10+ year FReeper departs the scene. How many Trumpeteers will pitch in and contribute to FR?

I'd bet a significant number of the most vitriolic will be gone by December at the latest.

I have toyed the idea of leaving as well but stick it out and just avoid any thread that has to do with Trump or Cruz when I can. It is like one of those shows Real Housewives of Anywhere.

That's pretty good advice. I'm sticking around for the moment. My wife, though a lurker, turned me on to FR back in '98. She's gone Galt when it comes to FR, Fox, Rush, and a few others.

She gets mad at me when she sees me FReeping, but I won't be censored.

If/when I depart, it will be done via Freep mail to the Admin Moderator. I'll just "fade away" like General MacArthur. lol

Oh, this is campaign is very different. In the past, FR derision was reserved for liberals and RINOS. This cycle the juvenile insults slurs and smears are directed at the most conservative candidate, while most Freepers are circling the wagons around a profane candidate who, up until 15 minutes ago, was embracing every liberal cause and politician out there. You even have Freepers defending Trump’s defense of socialized medicine and the “individual mandate” And linking to You Tube of “The Donald” supporting partial birth abortion, gun control, amnesty, protectionist trade policies just results in more name calling from the FR Trumpets. Conservatism has been abandoned, because we now have a candidate that will “Get ‘er done”, even though what “er” is remains a mystery.

One’s own beliefs are so deep. The hardest thing is to keep synthesizing in new information. Doubling down is the easiest thing to do. Sometimes it helps to “pretend as if” the other voices are right and play chess with it. You end up with some very uncomfortable truths sometimes, and sometimes a change of perspective adds to the truth you know. And it hurts.

It hurts me the most about Rush Limbaugh. I’m shocked re Levin but I wasn’t emotionally invested in him. I had trouble listening to him.

But just play along, what if these radio hosts are doing someone’s bidding? What if they always had been? It really hurts me about Rush, but I see it now, the new facts make a lot of logical sense and explain a lot of other things about Rush in the past.

I write here the same as I wrote on another thread today entitled, "Any Freepers who support Hillary or Bernie?" ...

Agamemnon to Degaston

We used to just consider them thread disruptors, and in the past most got found out and banned.

Now Hillary and Bernie supporters just post under cover as the nastiest Trump supporters posting to threads this election season.

Mind you they are likely not really Trump supporters, but they are the first to get ugly, and to make excuses for inexcusable behavior.

FReegards!

No, not a bit of difference. I’ve been here a long time, almost from the beginning.

I remember Freepers calling Sen. Jon Kyl names like “traitor.”

You probably remember that Sen. Jon Kyl, one of the most conservative senators ever, was labeled a “traitor” here because of a single statement he made about illegals.

Funny, just a couple of days ago Coulter was the antiChristess with you people.

She still supports Trump, by the way.

Methinks this next fundraiser may be very telling...

A real opportunity for the Trump supporters to make a stand.

For those of us that donate, I recommend adding a check the box as to which candidate you support. Either way, it would be interesting as hell.

100% agree.

I’m not leaving. I still love this place, but the amount of venom and hatred spewed at each other and at any candidate other than our own preferred one is eroding the quality of this site.

More importantly, it is helping to destroy the conservative movement.

I keep hoping we conservatives mature to the point where we can debate our differences civilly and no longer resort to personal attacks and, in some cases, outright slander.

2016 should have been a golden opportunity to take back the White House from an extremely weak Democrat candidate, but I honestly think we have blown it.

Another 10+ year FReeper departs the scene. How many Trumpeteers will pitch in and contribute to FR? It's been tough enough to reach the quarterly goal without running off more old/long timers.

Ah, yes, the "Trumpeteers" boogeyman.

You don't think Trump supporters have contributed to FR?

Where in the world do you get such information?

As for running off more old/long timers, nobody's being run off. "If you can't stand the heat, get out of the oven" is more like it...

There really has been a downward spiral here, I don’t recall it being as rude or spiteful from prior election cycles.

We all get it - this election season has very serious consequences to our country’s future - security, economy, supreme court, etc. We should be mad, loud, and ready to fight this out.

But we seem to be failing at convincing each other to vote for a candidate and succeeding at tossing tag lines, smears, and insults. It’s a shame.

FWIW, I’m 51/49 Cruz. Today. The day before, more Trump than Cruz. I see each of these gentlemen as having different strengths, and both as having their own shortcomings. Glad we have more time to observe before pulling the lever in November.
