Polls: Cruz Leading in Wisconsin, Closing in California, Pennsylvania
American Thinker ^ | 3/28/2016 | Sierra Rayne

A suite of new polls suggest that Ted Cruz may be gaining rapidly on Donald Trump in several key upcoming primary contests.

In Wisconsin, an Emerson poll conducted March 20-22 has Cruz leading Trump by 1%, 36% to 35%. A separate poll taken March 19-20 by the Washington Free Beacon shows Cruz with a 5% lead over Trump, 36% to 31%. Both are significant improvements for Cruz compared to previous polling data from late February, which showed him trailing Trump by 11%.

In California, a Los Angeles Times poll from March 16-23 puts Cruz now in a statistical tie (35% vs. 36%) with Trump, up from trailing Trump by between 5% to 16% in early/mid-March.

While Trump still leads in Pennsylvania, his margin has shrunk dramatically in recent weeks. A Franklin & Marshall poll conducted March 14-20 shows Trump with just a 3% lead over John Kasich (33% to 30%) and a 13% lead over Cruz. Back at the start of the month, Trump held a 19% lead over Cruz and a 26% lead over Kasich.

Polling data expected out this upcoming week should begin to show the impacts of the respective foreign policy choices the candidates are espousing.

In recent interviews with the Washington Post and the New York Times, Trump has articulated what might be considered a more isolationist/libertarian foreign policy that would involve possible large cuts in defense spending, a reduced involvement in geopolitical events, and allowing – potentially even encouraging – nations such as South Korea and Japan to obtain their own nuclear weapons deterrence as a replacement for the U.S. nuclear umbrella.

In contrast, Cruz's choice of Frank Gaffney and other members of the Center for Security Policy as his key foreign policy team paints a much more traditionally conservative view..

My sense is that political campaigns are a blood sport. They are actually war, and people have actually lost their lives, if you read the Clinton files.

We’ll see. If any of this mess turns out to be true, I do not think morality voters will be happy about being played by yet another candidate.

“There is no Mistress scandal.

Just trash with many of Trumps smear merchants/followers reposting the same fake stuff over and over.

The media is trying to cover up the scandal. If it were about Trump, it would be everywhere.

Several weekend tracking polls show Trump’s Enquirer stunt and attack on Cruz’s wife blowing up in his face very badly. No wonder he scrubbed all of that off of his Facebook page.

Yep. I suppose it’s possible that this will help Cruz, but my gut tells me that it won’t. I’m waiting to see the next set of polls that cover days only since the scandal broke.

If we don’t see any more Wisconsin polls, then that will give some idea what’s going on.

I also think it will keep Walker from endorsing Cruz...especially if he has his sights on the Senate.

Pennsylvania is an NRA, hunters state...and they will not vote Kasich...

We Steelers will beat him, like we do the Browns...

and Cruz's past is going to take him down, we Bible carrying folks in this State will not support a lying sex addict..we sure don't need another Bill Clinton in the Oval Office.

I’ve been through a number of these campaigns in my lifetime, and the polling pre-convention has seldom been reflected in the polling in the last month of the campaign.

The whole point of the campaign is to put forward your best and to put forward your opponent’s worst.
==

Hasn’t everyone on FR, been thru many campaigns.

If you mean Cruz has no chance at winning the general, correct.

If otherwise look at the data again, no candidate has lost those states by those margins and won the nomination much less the general.

At this point our next Prez is gonna be Trump or Hillary.

Roar like lions. . . LOL. Every time things don’t go his way, he and all of you who support him cry like hurt puppies. I don’t see that being any different in November.

I think the mistress scandal has hurt Cruz, so there’s no telling what’s going to happen there.

Hypothesize with me for a moment that this was not still ongoing. Let’s assume that Cruz is as clean as can be.

I believe he could mount a credible campaign and that he and Hillary could be neck and neck. I don’t see him jumping outside the traditional victory path for republicans, though. It will be the Ohio/Florida pathway.

Trump, on the other hand, truly could put a few more states in play. I definitely see New Jersey, Michigan, and Pennsylvania in play. That’s why a veep from one of those states would make a lot of sense....Santorum, Christie, Whitman, or Carson.

Enjoy the upcoming show. While you wait for discovery to unfold, think back on John Edwards.

Oh I know you Trumpsters are hoping against hope. As I've said, the classlessness demonstrated by Trump devotees posting garbage rumors, fake tweets, silly interviews with hookers, etc, has been pretty disgusting to watch. If it's even possible, I am sure it has alienated another block of people as Trump and his mob typically do.

By the way, are you still waiting for Sarah Palin's lesbian problem to pan out? That was also reported by the NE? Are you on Hillary death watch, cause according to the NE she is dying and should be wormfood in a few days/weeks. How about Obama's imminent divorce from Michelle which the NE claimed to be true? That one hasn't panned out. Or maybe the 12 mistresses Obama supposedly has? Have we gotten that gem the NE put out nailed down yet?

Come on, you can't be so silly as to believe the NE. Just because they get a couple things right doesn't mean that 90% of it is BS. Just look how this was reported. It wasn't even printed as a real story. It is a report of reports, printed in such a way they could avoid being sued because it is none of their own sourcing.
